Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Professor of Family Therapy at Nova Southeastern University

 

Ronald J. Chenail, Ph.D. is Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Professor of Family Therapy at Nova Southeastern University. Dr. Chenail joined then Nova University in 1989 as an Assistant Professor of Family Therapy and Director of the Institute for Systemic Therapy. In 1991, he was promoted to the Dean of the School of Social and Systemic Studies. In 1999, he was named Assistant to the President for Academic Affairs. He served in that capacity until 2004, when he was named the Vice President for Research, Planning, and Governmental Affairs. In 2007, his title was changed to Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness and he served in that role until 2012. In 2013, he became the Associate Provost and served in that position until his assumption of the Interim Provost position in 2019.

Since 1990, he has been part of 14 grants and contracts totally over $6,506,300, published over 130 publications including seven books, and given over 200 formal academic presentations at conferences and meetings. He is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Divorce and Remarriage and The Qualitative Report. Previously, he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Marital and Family Therapy (JMFT), the flagship research journal of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) and Associate Editor with Family Business Review. In addition, he is an editorial board member of Qualitative Research in Psychology; American Journal of Family Therapy, Contemporary Family Therapy, Qualitative Social Work; Counseling, Psychotherapy, and Health; JMFT; and Sistemas Familiares; as well as a founding editorial board member of Qualitative Inquiry.

Dr. Chenail earned his B.A. in History from St. Bonaventure University, his M.Ed. in Educational Psychology-Counseling from the University of Houston and his Ph.D. in Family Therapy from Nova University.
