2017 IGTI Agenda
This Training Institute is designed to present topics in geriatrics and elder care important in long-term or community settings, with a special focus on interprofessional practice. It reinforces working amongst other professions and strategizing ways to improve and coordinate care. Elders present multi-professional challenges to the health care system; they can have a spectrum of medical, functional and psychosocial conditions that involve complex medical and community care. Addressing the whole patient demands a need for many disciplines. One of the challenges is better coordinating care between the professionals. We believe that better coordinated care will further lead to decreased hospitalizations and re-hospitalizations as well as maintenance of functioning elders in the community.
The program is targeted for physicians of all disciplines, dentists, optometrists, audiologists, speech therapists, nurses, occupational and physical therapists, health care administrators, educators, social workers, mental health practitioners, public health specialists, health professional students and community members interested in the field of geriatrics and aging.
