A Day for Children
On September 16, 2007 Nova Southeastern University will be presenting its 6th annual "A Day for Children" on the University's campus in Davie, Florida. Last year NSU Health Care Centers, Broward County's One Community Partnership, Children's Services Council of Broward, WPBT-Kid Vision, KISS FM, the Miniaci Theater, Broward County Theater of the Performing Arts Blue Cross Blue Shield of Fla. and The North Broward Hospital District hosted the event. We expect the same supporters this year for the event that will be from Noon - 4 p.m. Sunday September 16, 2007.
This fun-filled day focusing on health care, social services, and other resources available to Broward County families will be free and be open to the public being held in front of the Alvin Sherman Library, Research, and Information Technology Center, located on 3100 Ray Ferrero, Jr., Boulevard.
There will be seventy-five booths, consisting of community and service organizations. In addition NSU students and faculty, representing different disciplines of the university, will volunteer their time to provide fun activities, for the families and children attending. Representatives from NSU’s Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine, Dental Medicine, Pharmacy, Optometry, Allied Health and Nursing, the Center for Psychological Studies, Mailman Segal Institute for Early Childhood Studies, Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences, the departments of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology, and the Institute for Children Services will be answering health care questions and providing free health screenings.
In addition to free screenings, there will be a variety of activities for children including a bounce house, contests, disc jockey, jugglers, arts and crafts, games, a puppet show, surprise guests, and raffles for educational materials. The Davie Police and Fire Department will be providing fingerprinting, ID cards and free safety and installation demonstrations of child car seats as part of the daylong activities. The Epilepsy Foundation will provide free bicycle helmets, and staff will be available to enroll children who have now health care coverage into the state Kids Care programs. The NSU library will also be on-hand to provide library cards for children and parents.
We feel this is the only comprehensive event of its kind in Broward County providing free information as to services available to children and their families through out the county and Nova Southeastern University.
Last year, more than 3,000 families attended "A Day for Children" and took part in the free health screenings for hearing and balance, vision, and dental health as well as bringing to the community the services available in the Broward County.
