From the very beginning, you'll be able to jump right into our research programs. It's your chance to have experiences you never dreamed you'd have; experiences like being published or going to research conferences as an undergraduate.
And since you learn better through experience, the things you learn will stick with you far beyond graduation day.

Student Symposium
When pursuing a degree in English, you may think that academics stay in the classroom; that’s not always the case. You’ll have the chance to be a part of the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences Undergraduate Student Symposium where you will defend your work in order to be honored as an Outstanding Student.
"Presenting at the symposium provides an opportunity for students to teach each other about our research and fields of interest. It extends learning outside the classroom and cultivates a respect for knowledge and questioning." Dan Abella, 2012 Outstanding Student
Marine Biology
However you first discovered it, the passion for research is something that never fades. In fields like Marine Biology, most students want to go out in the field and fully realize their passion for the sciences; at NSU, that dream becomes a reality. The research you do as an undergraduate will help as you start to look at Graduate programs and, eventually, a career.
"These experiences have contributed to a better understanding of marine life as well as moving me closer to my goal of earning my bachelor's degree. The diversity of courses and research opportunities has allowed me to study a wide array of topics." Amanda Sylvester, Marine Biology Student
Space Shuttle
You may think that all of NSU's research is grounded here on Earth; that's not exactly the case. Undergraduates have been able to get in on research experiments that actually took place on board NASA’s Endeavor space shuttle where microgravity research is important for the potential gain in scientific and technological information, particularly in the biomedical and drug-development fields.
"The idea of conducting an experiment in space fascinates me. Although the reaction under study is rather simple, (it) offers insight into the role gravity plays. That can help us better understand other processes." Heidi Mederos, Sophomore Biology Major.
