Director of the Tutoring and Testing Center
Hello, my name is Lisa Walther. I have been passionately assisting students succeed in higher education for over 20 years. My professional career in higher education started back in 1989 in my home state of New Jersey when I graduated from Rutgers University with my bachelor’s degree – dual major – (B.A.) Sociology and Communications. My first job out of college at this stage was at a local community college. It was there that my career began to take form and it became clear to me that higher education was the place where I could make a significant positive contribution and impact student lives. With the encouragement of some great mentors, I was inspired to return to higher education and complete my master’s degree. I did so two times over, earning my first master’s degree (M.P.A.) in Public Administration from Rutgers University, and my second, after relocating to Florida, at Florida International University (M.S.) in Higher Education Administration.
At NSU, I enjoy serving as the director of the Tutoring and Testing Center as it affords me the opportunity to be creative, yet strategic in determining how our efforts help students succeed. I also get to work with an extraordinary team of professionals who share my passion, and this is very rewarding. Ultimately, what I enjoy most is seeing our students’ transformation and growth as a result of their higher education experience.
For leisure, I like to spend quality time with my family as I am the proud mother of two boys I adore. I also enjoy traveling, reading, theater, and everything South Florida has to offer, the sun, beaches, and overall lifestyle. I look forward to many more years of service to our NSU Sharks!
Associate Director for the Tutoring and Testing Center
Hello, my name is Gail Levine. My greatest desire is to see our students succeed in their educational journey at NSU. I started my career at NSU in 1985 as a math adjunct instructor. Shortly thereafter, I had the opportunity to develop a math tutoring program which over the past few decades has become an integral part of the wonderful student resource known as the Tutoring and Testing Center.
While my role as Associate Director has many responsibilities, one of my passions is to mentor students individually in math success strategies as well as study, organization, and time management techniques. Every day, over the past 20+ years, has been an adventure in facilitating the growth of our students.
My education background consists of a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics (BS) from the University of Florida, a Master of Science Degree in Guidance and Counseling (MS) and an Educational Specialist Degree (ED.S.) from Barry University;
My personal interests include spending time with my family and close friends, traveling, leisure reading, and flower arranging.
Please feel free to contact me anytime!

Hello, my name is Cortney Palmacci. I am a born and raised South Floridian, who has always had a passion for learning and reading. During my undergraduate studies at FIU, I was fortunate to be exposed to many different subjects and topics while earning a B.A. in Liberal Arts. I started my career at NSU in the University Call Center in 2002. It was during my time in that office that my passion for helping students, education, and writing drove me to complete my graduate degree here at NSU. I earned an M.A. in Writing, and then started working in the Tutoring and Testing Center in 2010.
One of the best parts of my job is getting to work closely with so many students. As I was forming my educational and professional goals and philosophies during my own schooling, I made many mentors in the supportive and interesting faculty and staff I met. Getting to be a part of that experience for students here at NSU is one of my favorite aspects of my role. I believe in fostering a creative, intellectual curiosity in students that fuels their passion to learn and explore the world beyond the obvious.

Hello, my name is Nicole Green. My personal experience in learning has cultivated a passion in me for higher education and student engagement. For my own undergraduate program, I attended American Public University and obtained my B.S. in Sociology. After completing my bachelor’s degree, I discovered my zeal for education when I took the role of testing coordinator at a local community college. In 2013, I completed my Master of Science Degree in Leadership at Grand Canyon University.
On a personal note, I enjoy spending time with my family and love taking on any special project or community events I can find. I am excited to work with such a dynamic team and look forward to growing with the NSU family.

Hello, my name is Robert Miyares. I am the Coordinator of Tutoring and Testing for the Tutoring and Testing Center. A South Florida native, I attended the University of Central Florida for my undergraduate degree in Literature. After working on various successful research projects with UCF faculty, I decided to continue my education and earned my Master of Arts in English, Literary, Cultural, and Textual Studies in 2010. After serving as a part-time writing tutor here at NSU, I applied for the position I currently hold and began my full-time work in 2011.
I appreciate the opportunity to work with a wide variety of faculty, staff, and students in my current position. I feel like I have the chance to make a positive impact in many different areas with such a flexible position. The diversity in tasks and assignments continually keep this position exciting and I hope to be able to support the students of Nova Southeastern University for years to come.
Hello, my name is Hilary Malave. My family moved to Florida from New Jersey when I was two years old. I have my Associates of Arts degree in Nursing, and Bachelors of Applied Sciences degree in Supervision and Management from Broward College. Also, I am currently taking a break from pursuing a Master of Business Administration in Finance. I have worked in the Tutoring and Testing Center since July 2012.
My career in higher education began while I was an undergraduate student at Broward College where I worked part time first in the Student Life department as a Student Life Clerk, then as the Procurement, Purchasing, & Special Projects Specialist and lastly as the Senior Student Ambassador. In my time working at Broward College, I absolutely loved working with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and donors. I am happy that I was able to bring both my knowledge and experience over to Nova Southeastern University and the Tutoring and Testing Center.
In my spare time I love to read, swim and paint. I also love spending as much time as possible with my pure breed Labrador retriever “Vishous”, don’t let the name fool you, he is an absolute sweet heart.
Wendy van Woerden
I have been at Nova since March of 2013. I retired from Entenmann’s Bakery after working for them in a managerial capacity for over 32 years. My career in higher education started at Broward College where I worked part time as a proctor in their testing center. I absolutely loved working with students and the professors there. With that experience under my belt, when the opportunity arose to join NSU as the Administrative Assistant in Testing Services, I jumped at the chance and I love it as much as I thought I would. I really enjoy helping the students and it is my goal to take some of the stress out of their test taking experience here at the center.
I have been blessed with 3 wonderful daughters and my first grandchild, a grandson, arrived this past February and he is my heart. My husband and I have been members of the BMW Car Club of America for many years, and we go to their yearly Oktoberfest events all over the United States and I love it. Some of the things I really enjoy are walking, reading and evening picnic dinners on the beach with my husband and I am starting classes here at NSU in the fall.
Greetings! My name is Tina James. I have been working at Nova Southeastern University alongside students to further their education for the past 10 years. I am very motivated and dedicated to working with our students. I currently hold an Associate of Science in Health Administration from University of Phoenix and am pursing my Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration here at NSU. In my spare time, I like to sing, dance, read books, watch television, travel, and spend time with my family playing games. My desire is to continue growing with the NSU family. I am looking forward to working with all of you.
