Requesting a WebBoard

To request a WebBoard online, go to
www.nova.edu/common-lib/docs/wwwboard.html#theform.
At the time you request a WebBoard, you can also request for security to be established. Fo r example, you can create a specific username and password or you can limit it to anyone with an NSU username. You can change the security at a later time with an online web security application at www.nova.edu/common-lib/docs/websec.html. You will also need to select a Moderator/Administrator that will moderate the WebBoard.

Accessing a WebBoard

Once a WebBoard is created, you will be able to access it through a URL that will be emailed to you by Educational Technology Services.

  1. Start your browser and type in the URL for the particular WebBoard and press Enter. I.e. http://www.nova.edu/WWWBOARD/staff/techtrain
  2. If there is web security, enter the appropriate username and password and click OK.

You will now be connected to the appropriate WebBoard. The layout will look similar to the picture above. There will be a list of topics and responses that have been posted to the WebBoard.

Features/Functions

  1. To view a posting, click on the link for that posting. The posting will be displayed in a new window. The posting contains information about who posted the thread, the date, and any responses.

    1.1 To email the person who posted the thread, click on the link for their name.

    1.2 To view a link within a posting, click on the link to access that site.

    1.3To view a response, click on the link for the response. The posting will indicate it is a response with In Reply to:. It will also give the original topic information.

    1.4 To post a response, click on POST A RESPONSE. Fill in the appropriate information and click on Preview Response, if you would like to check what you are posting if not, click on Post Response.

    1.5 To return to the WebBoard, click on the link at the top of the page with the WebBoard’s title.

  2. To post a topic, click on POST A TOPIC. Fill in the appropriate information.

    2.1 To submit a link, type in the address in the URL field. I.e. http://www.nova.edu and then type in a title for the link in the title field.

    NOTE: If you do not type in a title, the link will not appear on the posting.

    2.2 To insert an image, type in a URL for the image.

    NOTE: The image must be a link. I.e. http://www.nova.edu/images/nsusunlogo-blue.gif.

    2.3 To preview the topic, click on Preview Posting. The page will show the posting as it will look once posted. If there are corrections, click the Back button on the browser, make corrections and click Post Topic.

    2.4 To clear the form, click on Clear Screen.

    2.5 To post a topic, click on Post Topic.

    2.6 You will get a confirmation that your entry has been posted.

    2.7 To return to the WebBoard, click on the link.

    Note: If a posting or response is not listed after you have posted it, click on the reload or refresh button on your browser.

  1. To view FAQ, click on the FAQ link. This will display a list of frequently asked questions on WebBoards.

  2. To moderate the WebBoard, click on the ADMINISTRATOR ONLY link.

    4.1 To remove some postings, click on the Remove Some Postings button.

    4.1.1 Fill in the Moderator Username and Moderator Password

    Note: S(o) is a single thread and only it will be deleted. T(n) is a threaded posting with (n) number of responses. If you select a T(n), the original topic and all responses will be deleted.

    4.1.2 To select a posting to be removed, click in the box next to it.

    4.1.3 To remove postings, go to the bottom of the page and click REMOVE POSTINGS.

    4.1.4 You will receive a confirmation with the Results of Posting Removal.

    4.1.5 To return to the WebBoard, click on the link or return to remove postings by clicking on the link.

    4.2 To remove all postings, click on the Remove All Postings button.

    4.2.1 Fill in the Moderator Username and Moderator Password

    4.2.2 Follow steps 4.1.2 -4.1.5 above.

    Note: This option will remove all postings fromt he WebBoard.

    4.3 To archive postings, click on the Archive Postings button.

    4.3.1 Fill in the Moderator Username and Moderator Password

    Note: S will select only that posting, not the responses. T(n) will select all postings.

    4.3.2 To select a posting to be archived, click in the box next to it.

    4.3.3 To archive the postings, go to the bottom of the page and click ARCHIVE POSTINGS.

    4.3.4 You will get a confirmation page with Archive posting Results with the URL for the archive. Write this down, so you can link to it at a later time.

    4.3.5 To view the archive, click on the link.

    4.3.6 To return to the WebBoard, click on the link or return to archive postings by clicking on the link.

    Note: A posting that is archived is not deleted. If you want to delete it, you must go through the process to remove postings.

  3. To search a WebBoard for a topic, name, etc., type in the search criteria in the box provided at the top of the page and click Search Files.

    5.1 To narrow the search, use and. I.e. Test and Julie will return postings that included both the words Test and Julie. If there is a posting with Test but not Julie, it will not be returned.

    5.2 To broaden the search, use or. I.e. Test or Julie will return postings that included the word Test or Julie or both words together.

    5.3 To reset the search criteria, click on the Reset button.

  4. To change the view of the postings, select either List All Postings, List Topics Only or Only Postings Since.

    6.1 List All Postings will display the original topics with any responses.

    6.2 List Topics Only will display the original topics without responses.

    6.3 To List by Date, choose a month and date and click Only Postings Since. Only those topics that were posted on or after that date will be returned.
