Greeks Take Home STUEYS

On Tuesday April 15th, the Ninth annual Student Life Achievement Awards, commonly known as the STUEYS, was held at the Rose and Alfred Miniaci Performing Arts Center. Megan Kate McDonald from the Phi Sigma Sigma sorority won the NSU Female Athlete of the Year. The NSU Undergraduate Organization of the Year Award was taken by the Kappa Sigma Fraternity.

Phi Beta Sigma’s coming out brings in Four New Guys

On Saturday April 12th the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity had their new member coming out show at the UC atrium. Many students, both from NSU and other universities, came to watch the unveiling of the newly initiated brothers. The new brothers of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity are: Jonathan Mammarelli, Benn Constant, Darryl Gordon, and Jon Crut.

The Return of the Lambda Ladies

On Friday March 14th, 2008 at the ASA Building, the Lambda Theta Alpha sorority, as known as the “Lambda Ladies”, returned to Nova Southeastern University with a coming out show for three new sisters.

Many NSU students, as well as student from other universities, attended the event and witnessed the unveiling of the new sisters. The newly initiated sisters of the Gamma-Delta chaptern of Lambda Theta Alpha are Lorena Cabrera, Nicole Martinez, and Nina Vizcarrondo.

Phi Sigma Sigma’s Rock-a-thon rocks NSU

The Phi Sigma Sigma sorority’s annual Rock-a-Thon was held on Thursday March 13th, 2008. The event was slightly changed this year from the past by adding a rock concert at the completion of the event. The proceeds of the event went towards Phi Sigma Sigma’s national philanthropy The National Kidney Foundation. The Event raised over $700.00 through donation as well as over $1,200.00 through sponsors such as Smoothie King and Talent Farm.

The event starting at 8:00am, where the sisters of Phi Sigma Sigma collected donations in front of the Parker Building while continuously rocking in rocking chairs. Starting at 8:00pm, the event moved to the flight deck where four bands Mario Paez, My Complex Island, The Homecoming, and Robots and Butterflies performed a free concert for the Students who donated to the cause.

Greeks Dominate Homecoming!

This year the Greeks showed up in full force to the 2008 Homecoming events.

Starting with the first event of Homecoming, SUB’s annual Flight Deck Follies, there were four Greek participants: Chris Gioiello (Beta Theta Pi), Jim Sinkevich (Kappa Sigma), Rico Hernan (Kappa Sigma), and Viral Patel (Kappa Sigma). In the end of the event Chris Gioiello walked away with first Price.

Also, during the annual “Anything that Floats” raft race in the Gold Circle Lake, there was a total of 8 sponsored Greek rafts. After the completion of three heats, Kappa Sigma’s “5th Pillar” raft won first place, which included six Hellogoodbye concert tickets, six Homecoming dance tickets, and $500.00 to put towards an on campus event.

Lastly at the Homecoming dance, sponsored by the NSU SGA, Greeks took five of the possible eight homecoming courts:

  • Senior King – Willie Woods (Phi Beta Sigma)
  • Senior Queen – Robin Furmanski (Delta Phi Epsilon)
  • Junior Prince – Gumba Ligden (Kappa Sigma)
  • Sophmore Prince – Katrel Ortiz (Phi Beta Sigma)
  • Freshman Prince – Ben Choi (Kappa Sigma)
