Community Service and Social Action Student Organizations

The following are a current offering of NSU undergraduate student organizations that focus on community service and social action. Click here to find out more information on student organization events and information about joining one of these organizations.

Alpha Phi Omega is a co-ed national service fraternity who devote themselves to leadership, friendship, and service in all that we do. Members participate in community service of all kinds, on and off campus, and provide members with the opportunity to develop leadership skills and service opportunities through service to the nation, service to the community, service to the campus, and service to the members of the Fraternity.

Best Buddies is an organization dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental.

Cozy Corners is a student organization that dedicated to giving children a great homecoming from the hospital, whether it be they might be fighting a terrible disease by redecorating their room as a surprise. Through fundraising and donations, members of this organization are able to give kids a brand new bedroom.

The purpose of Habitat for Humanity Campus Chapter: NSU is to promote Habitat for Humanity International. Habitat for Humanity International is a global organization, founded in 1976, that offers a “hand up”, not a “hand out”, to low to very low-income families who are unable to qualify for conventional financing but are willing to work hard to improve their family’s lives. As a campus chapter, members will have the opportunity to volunteer throughout Broward County at two building sites and one donation ReStore. At the building sites, volunteers help construct the soon-to-be homes for the future homeowners. At the ReStore, volunteers help collect and organize donations at the warehouse.

Locks for Cause is a student organization that raises cancer awareness and holds yearly events where people can receive a free haircut and all the ponytails collected will be donated to a charitable organization that makes wigs for children. Furthermore Locks for Cause provides opportunities to volunteer in hospitals and the Broward County. The organization also provide network with other students and members in the medical field as well as participate and volunteer at cancer walks.

Make A Meal is a student organization for students to try and stop world hunger as well as the water crisis that is happening in the world currently. To make these dreams a reality, the organization conjoins the efforts of Stop Hunger Now, Blood: Water Mission, and Broward Outreach.

The MAKO Rangers are a group of students who are committed to giving children a reason to smile. Members are involved with the community in a plethora of ways on and off campus such as: A Day for Children, Joe Dimaggio's Hospital visits in Power Ranger suits, Toys for Tots, NASCAR Fund Raiser, Community Fest, and 5K Races.

The mission of MEDLIFE is to help families achieve greater freedom from the constraints of poverty, empowering them to live healthier lives. Patients did not choose to be poor, but they have chosen to strive toward a better life; MEDLIFE stands beside them in this pursuit. MEDLIFE aims to achieve this goal by partnering with motivated individuals in poor communities working to improve their access to MEDs: Medicine, Education and community Development. MEDLIFE believes access to quality healthcare is a basic human right. To this end, members commit their time, resources, knowledge and hope to bring Medicine, Education and Development to Low Income Families Everywhere.

Operation Smile provides free cleft lip and cleft palate repair surgery for children born all over the world. Operation Smile is an international medical humanitarian organization dedicated to raising awareness of this life-threatening issue and providing lasting solutions that will allow children to be healed, regardless of financial standing, well into the future. Operation Smile provides surgeries for as little as 240 dollars and they last approximately 45 minutes.

Relay For Life at Nova Southeastern University is an on-campus, overnight fundraising event for the American Cancer Society that takes place in April. Clubs and organizations form teams and raise money throughout the year, celebrating their hard work and the lives of those who have been touched by cancer the evening of the event.

ROTARACT at NSU is a University based community service organization under the Rotary International umbrella at Nova Southeastern University (NSU).The goals of this organization are: Community Service, Professional Leadership Development, Team Work, and Networking. Re-established on the main campus in Winter 2008, ROTARACT at NSU has been very active in the local and global community. Like many ROTARACT clubs, ROTARACT at NSU receives support and sponsorship for its projects and activities from NSU and local Rotary clubs of Ft. Lauderdale South, Weston, Plantation & Davie Cooper-City. It is a part of Rotary district 6990.

We are the Nubian Queens of SISTUHS Inc. founded on the campus of Florida State University on December 3, 1992 and chartered at Nova Southeastern University on March 18, 2012. The mission of SISTUHS, Inc is to improve the social disposition of underrepresented populations through community service, education, and other social services in our respective communities.

Society of Mentors strives to connect with local high school students and lend a hand in overcoming daily challenges, as well as aiding in the college application process. Organization members hope to positively influence high school students by giving them the tools and knowledge to succeed academically and personally, both now and in the future.
