Purpose
A group of committed learners dedicated to building bridges of understanding to create a community where each individual is valued for their similarities AND their differences. Furthermore, all members of this community act as a student AND teacher of diversity.

The Multicultural Affairs listserv is the best way to get up-to-date information about upcoming events at NSU. If you are interested in receiving emails about Multicultural events occurring in and around the NSU community, please email your full name and NSU email address to Angie Freeman so that you can be added to the multicultural@nova.edu listserv.
Multicultural Affairs Events
DiversiTini
This is a welcome back gathering or "mixer" for all multicultural organizations, faculty, students, and surrounding communities. This entertaining social engagement provides everyone with insight to upcoming events within all multicultural organizations. Mock cocktails and light snacks are served.
Dessert & Dialogue
This is a roundtable discussion where students, faculty, and staff converse about various topics surrounding diversity. Expert panelists give insight on the topic at hand while voicing their opinions. Desserts also accompany the dialogue.
Diversity Summit
The NSU Diversity Summit is an annual event that is designed to raise participant’s awareness of the many perspectives that make up our society. It provides an opportunity to examine issues impacting our diverse community, and supplies applicable tools and strategies to participants on how to take action in order to improve our society. This insightful summit is beneficial to all.
Cultural Coffee House
This event is staged in a relaxed environment. Students, faculty, staff, and surrounding communities partake in an open-mic forum. This coffee house setting allows everyone to express their talents. Unique varieties of coffees and teas from various cultures are served.
Unity Week
This is an annual tradition at NSU that seeks to promote engagement, awareness, and celebrations of the diverse experiences and perspectives that exist on campus. Events include:
Take Back the Night
An annual NSU event dedicated to raising awareness of sexual assault and violence while creating a supportive environment for expression and empowerment. The event will include a candlelight vigil and a speak-out, where survivors and secondary survivors of sexual violence can share their experiences in a supportive environment. In conjunction with Take Back the Night, the Clothesline Project, a visual exhibit of shirts with graphic messages and illustrations designed by survivors of violence and their loved ones, will be on display. The Project serves as a vital means of conveying the enormity of the problem of violence against women. Sponsored by Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and Residence Life.
Hunger Banquet
The banquet serves as a hands-on illustration of the inequitable distribution of food in the world. Each student receives a card identifying them as a First, Second or Third World citizen. First World citizens eat at tables with tablecloths and are served a full-course meal by waiters; Second World citizens sit at a bare table and eat rice, beans and salad; and Third World citizens will sit on the bare floor and will have to share two bowls of rice. Sponsored by the office of Civic Engagement.
Interfaith Dialogue
An opportunity for students to see some of the similarities and differences within the major religions represented on campus through a round-table with representatives from each religion. Sponsored by the office of Spiritual Life.
Cultural Taste of NSU
Students from various cultures will prepare food entrées that represent their culture and share them among the NSU community. Sponsored by the Nova International Student Association (NISA).
Wall of Hate
An NSU community event signifying discrimination, oppression, and inhumanity by painted bricks done by students. The wall stands on campus during the entire Unity Week and pulling it down signifies the power of every individual has to create constructive change for the future. Sponsored by the office of Multicultural Affairs.
Cultural Fashion Show
A display and presentation of various regions around the world. Students dress in clothing from different cultures and represent them in a fashion show. Sponsored by the office of Multicultural Affairs.
Unity Jam
A multicultural party that brings Unity Week to an end by uniting everyone to have fun and dance. Sponsored by Lambda Theta Phi Fraternity, Inc.
