Thursday, August 23rd

4th Annual Volunteer Fair

Local agencies will be able to meet students, faculty, and staff. These agencies will be able to discuss volunteer opportunities with the NSU community. The fair will be in the University Center from 11 am - 2 pm, in conjunction with the Welcome Back BBQ at Quad Thursday.

September 17th - 21st

International Week of Peace

September 22nd

Bloom to Serve

NSU students, faculty, and staff are invited to paint planters and plant flowers for local nursing home residents. Additionally, volunteer will also have the opportunity to work on beautifying the campus. Transportation to the nursing home will be provided.

October 1st - 31st

Annual Teddy Bear Drive

During the month of October, the Office Student Leadership & Civic Engagement and FASP are collecting stuffed animals for Florida’s Law Enforcement. All donations are given to law enforcement officers. The officers provide the stuffed animals to children for comfort when they are removed from domestic violence situations. Donation Boxes will be located throughout the university.

October 6th

Gandhi Day of Service 2007

The University of Miami coordinates transportation to take students to different volunteer sites (such as beach cleanups, soup kitchens, etc). Last year, UM and other universities had over 800 volunteers, and we would love to have NSU students participate. Transportation to and from the University of Miami will be provided.

November

Thanksgiving Baskets

From October 29th till November 12th, collections of canned goods and treats will be assembled into Thanksgiving Baskets for Kids In Distress.

November 8th

4th Annual Canned Castle Contest

Students and organizations bring collected food items to the quad. The groups will then build castles out of their donations. The castles will judged and the winning group will receive a prize. All items will be counted, sorted, and boxed for donation to Kids In Distress.

November 13th

Little Buddies Carnival

Students, faculty, and staff can volunteer on campus for a day of games and fun with Big Brothers and Big Sisters. The children (Little Buddies) are on a waiting list for mentors. The Little Buddies Events give the children a chance to interact with mentors and peers for an afternoon of fun.

December

Angel Tree Program

From November 28th till December 12th, students, faculty, and staff have the opportunity to donate gifts to individual children for the holiday season.  All donations will be collected by the Office of Student Leadership and Civic Engagement and then delivered to the Salvation Army for disbursement.

December 4th

7th Annual Senior Prom

Students, faculty, and staff have the opportunity to escort a senior citizen from a local nursing home for the evening. The event will take place at a local hotel for a night of dinner, music, dancing, and fun. This event is truly magical. Maximum amount of volunteers is 60. Transportation to and from the prom will be provided for those who do not want to drive themselves.
