Student Educational Centers

The Office of Student Affairs at the NSU Student Educational Centers exists to foster student success and a University community.

Student Outreach

One of the many ways that the Office of Student Affairs in the cities, as well as the six Student Government Associations, attempt to reach out to students is through clubs and organizations. These clubs and organizations are funded and governed by their respective Student Government Association.

Current clubs and organizations include:
  • the Sharkateers (a volunteer group)
  • the Angelic Sharks (a spiritual organization), and
  • softball teams in both West Palm Beach and Orlando

These clubs and organizations exist as a means for building leadership skills as well as to promote community outreach and recreation. There is plenty of room for the addition of other organizations at all of the Student Educational Centers.

For a chartered club or organization, there must be an Advisor (who works for NSU) as well as a President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer. In addition, the clubs and organizations must hold regular meetings and maintain and submit their meeting minutes. Any student that is interested in forming a club and organization should seek guidance from the Office of Student Affairs at their respective Student Educational Centers.

How to get involved with Student AffairsCoordinators

Class Celebrations

The Student Educational Center’s “Class Celebration” is an event for students to involve their families, peers, and colleagues from their local cities who are unable to attend Graduation Commencement in South Florida or who simply want to celebrate the accomplishments of the graduates. These events typically include dinner or a reception and a short program recognizing the graduates with a special gift.

For the events in Orlando, Tampa, Jacksonville, and Las Vegas, Dr. Brad Williams, Dean for the Division of Student Affairs, typically attends these celebrations. These events provide students and alumni the opportunity to celebrate their accomplishments and help them feel more connected to the main campus.

Family FIN Day

Family “Fin” Day is an event for the entire family. Some of these events include free food, free entertainment, bounce houses, clowns, games, DJ’s, games, and more. Every SEC is different and is held at various venues around the SEC community. Be sure to contact the Coordinator of Student Affairs in your respective cities to determine when Family “Fin” Day will be in your city and where.

Community Outreach

Student Affairs at the Student Educational Centers continuously promote community outreach initiatives. Past SEC community events have included Toys for Tots, the American Heart Association Heart Walk, Adopt a Family, Relay for Life, the Grate American Smokeout, and many more. To learn about volunteer opportunities and/or getting involved with your local community, please contact the Coordinator of Student Affairs at your local Student Educational Center.

Women's Celebrations

Every year, the Student Educational Center’s Office of Student Affairs pay tribute to women worldwide in a celebration highlighting their historical accomplishments throughout the history of the United States and abroad. Contact your local SEC Coordinator of Student Affairs to find out when this celebration is coming to your city!

Student Government Associations

The Student Government Associations were formed at each of the Student Educational Centers to provide a voice for the student population.

The current SGA’s are active in their NSU communities and work hard to recognize the needs and concerns of the students in their cities. The SEC SGA’s hold two meetings each month: One meeting is open for all students to attend in order to share suggestions or concerns. A second meeting is closed for organizational development and planning.

The SGA attends various events each year, both at the local SEC and the main campus. Some of these events include Community Fest, Homecoming, SGA Training, Stuey Awards (if applicable), Class Celebration, and Family “Fin” Day.

Officers are elected by their student bodies for a one-year term beginning March 1 and running through the end of February. Positions that students have the opportunity to run for include:

  • President
  • Vice-President
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Public Relations Chair
  • Entertainment Chair
  • Senator (there is one senator position available for all academic programs)

The SEC SGA’s are comprised of both undergraduate and graduate students as one governing body per SEC.  For those students interested in attending an SGA meeting in their local SEC city or to get involved with the SGA, please contact your local SEC SGA.

PAN Student Government Association

PANSGA is the governing body of all Student Government Association Presidents for each academic program and Student Educational Center. This group of Student Government Presidents come together once a month to discuss and offer solutions for all current issues impacting all students in an effort to make NSU a better institution for all students.
