This year’s homecoming celebration will include the 4th Annual Blues and Bubbly Alumni Event featuring the Joey Gilmore Band; continuing education courses and lectures; Community Fest; President Ferrero’s 3rd Annual Tailgate; University Center Fountain unveiling; and of course, the NSU men’s and women’s basketball teams taking on Lynn University.
NSU’s Alumni Homecoming Week is the perfect place to reconnect with friends and rediscover the changing NSU campus.

A Night of Laughs with Carlos Alazraqui and Cedric Yarbrough from RENO 911!
7:00 p.m. in the Rose and Alfred Miniaci Performing Arts Center
The stars from the hit Comedy Central show RENO 911! will perform a comedy act for the NSU community. Carlos Alazraqui and Cedric Yarbrough who play Deputy Garcia and Deputy Jones, respectively on the show will have the crowd falling out of their seats with their stand up comedy. Some of their other works include RENO 911! Miami, Get Smart, Osmosis Jones, Happy Feet, The 40 year Old Virgin, Meet the Fockers, and Drillbit Taylor. The NSU Community will get the chance to meet and greet the stars after the show. Be prepared to be arrested by comedy with this special engagement! Bring your family and friends to President Ferrero’s 3rd Annual Homecoming Tailgate where you can be a part of NSU history as we unveil the NSU Shark Fountain. Refreshments will be served. Registered guests will receive a free ticket to the double header basketball game. Pre-registration is required to take advantage of the free tailgate and basketball ticket. Outdoor casual/NSU attire.

4th Annual Blues and Bubbly Alumni Event
A night of denim jeans, blues music, and champagne 6:00-9:00 pm in the University Center on Main Campus
Boogie the night away to the sounds of the blues by the Joey Gilmore Band. Randy A. Pohlman, Ph.D., Huizenga School dean, will accompany the band with his musical talents. The University Center will be transformed into a blues club where you will enjoy drinks, heavy hors d’oeuvres, and live music. Dress is casual chic, and don’t forget to wear your denim! Cost is $15 per person pre-paid, $25 at the door.

- Creating Journal Articles from Your Qualitative, Action, and Mixed Methods Dissertation Research
Presenter: Dr. Ron Chenail, Editor of The Qualitative Report and Director of NSU's new online Graduate Certificate in Qualitative Research
It is always a challenge to generate paper-length reports from book-length dissertations especially those studies in which the methodology was qualitative, mixed method, or action research. In this workshop, Dr. Ron Chenail, editor of The Qualitative Report and director of NSU's new online Graduate Certificate in Qualitative Research, will introduce you to a step-by-step process for re-presenting your findings into a paper suitable for submission to a scholarly journal. Bring your dissertation on a flash drive so you can work on the conversion process in the workshop!
- Questioning Techniques for Sales and Negotiations
Presenter: Vince Daniels, Hudson Institute, H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business and Entrepreneurship
Throughout your life, you will have one continual selling job-that of selling yourself. This seminar will cover some important techniques you can use to help you be more successful in this lifelong role. We will particularly look at selling yourself in the interviewing process. We will learn techniques to make the other party comfortable. Instead of talking, talking, talking, we will learn to use questioning techniques and psychology to sell ourselves much more effectively.
- Will Global Warming Bring Dengue Fever Epidemic to Florida?

This lecture will explore reasons why dengue fever, a serious disease among our southern neighbors, might (or might not) spread to Florida in the coming decades. Learn how to prepare.

This lecture will address essential elements of planning, preparation, and implementation of volunteer health initiatives in underserved communities globally.
- "Harvey", Cardiac Patient Simulator
Presenter: A. Alvin Greber, D.O., FACOI, Executive Dean, Health Professions Division, Chief, Division of Cardiology, College of Osteopathic Medicine
The course reveals the cardiac abnormalities detected by the astute physician on cardiac auscultations. Attendees via wireless stethophone will be able to appreciate those cardiac clinical abnormalities noted on physical examination by physicians, particularly cardiac specialists. CME AMA-PRA Category 1 credit for physicians (M.D.’s and D.O’s) and AOA Category 1 credit from the American Osteopathic Association will be granted to class participants.

A facts and data driven methodology to manage a business or a department to achieve better solutions will be explored. The course teaches participants new approaches to thinking and planning to achieve better business results.

- Diabetes: The Nuts and Bolts
Presenter: Naushira Pandya, M.D., CMD, Associate Professor and Chair, Department of Geriatrics, Director of Education Center, College of Osteopathic Medicine
The risks and causes of the Type 2 diabetes epidemic will be discussed and the relationship to obesity and lifestyle will be explored. Prevention and management of diabetes including medication management will be presented. There will be an opportunity for participants to discuss any concerns related to diabetes and related problems. This session will be informal and interactive.
- Best Practices in Responding to the Signature Injuries of our Returning Veterans Presenters: Samantha G. Boyd, Psy.D.; Arlene Brett Gordon, Ph.D.; LMFT, CFLE; Stephen Russo, Ph.D.; Barry Nierenberg, Ph.D.; Students United for Returning Veterans (SURV). Presented by the Center for Psychological Studies and the School of Humanities and Social Sciences
Serving the mental health needs of veterans returning from the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan has become the focus of national attention. This presentation will address best practices in responding to the biopsychosocial needs of the modern veteran returning from combat as well as the challenges of redeployment for soldiers and their families. Focus will be upon the role of the individual and the family in promoting resilience and readjusting to civilian life.
- Nutrition of the Eye
Presenter: Kimberly K. Reed, O.D., FAAO, College of Optometry
Nutrition of the Eye is designed to educate the participant about the connection between nutrition, supplements, and eye health. Common myths and misconceptions about the “right” supplements will be addressed, and an emphasis will be placed upon age-related macular degeneration as well as eye diseases related to obesity, such as diabetic and hypertensive retinopathy. Omega-3 supplementation will be thoroughly covered.
- Diabetes and the Eye
Presenter: Sherrol A. Reynolds, O.D., FAAO, College of Optometry
Diabetes and the Eye will provide a comprehensive overview of the various ocular complications associated with diabetes such as non-proliferative and proliferative retinopathy, maculopathy, glaucoma and cataracts. Treatment options currently available to diabetes-related eye problems will also be addressed.

Estate Planning 101 will guide you through the process of creating a plan tailored to fit your needs. You will learn the questions to ask and some things you may not have considered. Tax savings are an important consideration, but first you need to decide what you want to achieve.
Community Fest
Noon-4:00 p.m. around Gold Circle Lake, Main Campus
This annual festival celebrates and connects NSU students, alumni, employees, and their families in a carnival-like atmosphere. The day consists of live entertainment, food and drinks, large scale games, activity booths, paddle boats on the lake, and much more. The event has been designed with all age groups in mind, so anyone can find fun activities regardless of age. Best of all, the event is free!
