Qualitative Research Resource of the Week

Society for the Study of Symbolic Interaction (SSSI) is an international professional organization of scholars interested in the study of a wide range of social issues with an emphasis on identity, everyday practice, and language. Symbolic interactionism, the societys theoretical foundation, is derived from American pragmatism and particularly from the work of George Herbert Mead, who argued that peoples selves are social products, but that these selves are also purposive and creative. SSSI produces the journal Symbolic Interaction, a newsletter SSSI Notes, an annual conference, and sponsors the CouchStone Symposium.
