A Call for New Editorial Board Members

The Qualitative Report (TQR, ISSN 1052-0147) is a peer-reviewed, on-line journal devoted to writing and discussion of and about qualitative, critical, action, and collaborative inquiry and research. TQR serves as a forum and sounding board for researchers, scholars, practitioners, and other reflective-minded individuals who are passionate about ideas, methods, and analyses permeating qualitative, action, collaborative, and critical study. To help us continue to meet our mission we are looking to add new members to our Editorial Board to serve initial three-year terms with renewal options.

Members of our board take a posture of being supportive and nurturing to authors who submit papers to the journal. Instead of making our mark by citing how many papers we reject, we want to be known for helping authors become better writers and researchers. To this end, our reviewers work with the TQR editorial leadership team as part of an editorial community which unconditionally accepts all authors who submit their papers to the journal. In turn, we ask these authors to participate whole-heartedly in the editorial process of writing and re-writing. In this approach, reviewers and editors become mentors to the authors and as a team we work collaboratively to produce the best papers and journal possible.

As a TQR Board Member you will be expected to perform the following responsibilities:

  1. Review 2 to 3 new papers per year.

  2. Review revised manuscripts.

  3. Produce supportive and useful reviews.

  4. Participate in internal quality improvement activities (e.g., answer surveys, review new forms and procedures, provide feedback).

  5. Communicate with editors in a timely and professional manner.

Benefits of the position include

  1. Joining an exciting virtual community dedicated to improving qualitative research scholarship and scholars.

  2. Collaborating with an international editorial leadership team.

  3. Mentoring authors from around the world.

  4. Learning a novel and effective approach to reviewing scholarly papers.

  5. Receiving editorial reviewing resource materials.

  6. Participating in research projects to improve the editorial process.

  7. Learning to use new software applications for reviewing and editing.

  8. Improving your own scholarly writing.

  9. Acquiring knowledge on the latest innovations in qualitative inquiry.

  10. Gaining a valuable credential for tenure and promotion review.

If this editorial experience sounds interesting to you, please send a copy of your vita electronically to ron@nova.edu. In addition, please answer the following questions in your email:

  1. With what qualitative approaches to inquiry are you most familiar? Please describe your experiences with these approaches.

  2. With what qualitative approaches to inquiry are you somewhat familiar? Please describe your experiences with these approaches.
