SIGMA SIGMA PHI

NOVA SOUTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF OSTEOPATHIC MEDICINE

The Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine, Xi Chapter of Sigma Sigma Phi is an osteopathic honor and service organization dedicated to helping our community through a variety of student-initiated projects.

Please take a moment to read through this page and find out about the many exciting volunteer opportunities available through our organization and in the community.

Sigma Sigma Phi inducts new members during the winter semester of each year. Prior to induction, potential members must go through an application process and receive sufficient votes from the sitting members. Successful applicants will show a demonstrated history of volunteer service. Strong academic standing is required.

If you have questions, please email an SSP officer (the list can be found here), or email the SSP webmaster (see the bottom of the page).

ΣΣΦ

SSP has a series of events planned and coordinated by our members here at NSU. Each event takes place a few times every semester.

Medical Explorers– Each week, kids from the community come to learn about different aspects of the health care community, from osteopathic medicine, to dental medicine and many other fields.

Read-On– The ability to read is more vital than ever. Encouraging elementary kids to read is the goal of this program. By visiting elementary schools and reading with them, kids at a young age can see all the opportunities afforded to them, and can gain an enjoyment of reading.

Pre-DOc– High school students can be more inquisitive about what doctors do, and the equipment they use. SSP goes to local high schools to explain the use of equipment, and the osteopathic philosophy.

COM-Pals- Undergraduate students are at the point in their lives when they really start deciding what career path they want to go down. This program travels to nearby colleges and universities to discuss the field of medicine and the osteopathic philosophy.

Doctor’s Bag– Going to the doctor can be a scary time for kids. We sit down with school aged children and show them all of the equipment used during a medical exam to alleviate some of their fears.

Sigma Sigma Phi also does various community involvement events such as visits to nursing homes as well as community education videos.

Volunteering through our organization isn’t the only way to get involved in your community. The opportunities are endless and only require you deciding what you are interested in doing. But just in case you’re still unsure about what you want to do, some community links can be found here.
