About Us
Radio X was started in August of 1990 by a group of ambitious students determined to bring an official college radio station to the South Florida scene. Originally named “Nova Knight Radio” (a play on words derived from a combination of the NSU mascot and the fact that we air between 7pm and 7am), Radio X started it’s humble path to the taking over the airwaves broadcasting solely to students residing on Nova Southeastern University’s main campus. A few years later, with the help of Jones Cable, Radio X increased its listener base by broadcasting on public access television. Several years after the jump to cable radio, the students, along with Faculty Advisor Dr. Kate Waites, took it upon themselves to elevate the station to the next level. They put together a proposal for the “Powers at Be,” proposing the acquisition of the air time not being used by the Piper High School’s 88.5FM. In 1998 the Broward County School Board granted the request and allowed WNSU to broadcast on the FM dial increasing our potential listening base from 55,000 to over a million. In recent years Radio X has come to be known as the alternative to corporate run, commercial radio stations for young adults in South Florida, and with the recent addition of online streaming on our websites (nova.edu/radiox) our next goal is the world.

Mission
Radio X promotes college radio programming with a wide variety of shows in a block format. A major supporter of local bands and the music scene, Radio X offers a local show that features interviews with South Florida musicians. In addition to providing world, national, local, music, and sports news, Radio X also provides weather and NSU news and sports, as well as area concert updates. It also produces original informational and entertainment programming aimed at its young adult market and public service announcements for the South Florida community. Both a communications entity and an educational tool, NSU’s Radio X is establishing itself as a voice for NSU’s and the surrounding communities, particularly on behalf of its youth and young adult market.
