About Your Therapist
Doctoral trainees in clinical psychology provide all services under the close supervision of Dr. Jan Faust, a licensed clinical psychologist. Dr. Faust has extensive experience as a clinical practitioner, supervisor, consultant, educator, and researcher. Additionally, trainees, prior to joining the PSED program, have completed rigorous coursework in assessment and intervention for children and adults, and typically have years of experience working with individuals dealing with emotional disturbance.
Can I Choose My Therapist?
Clients are assigned to one of the therapists that work for the program based on availability. However, when possible we try to accommodate any special requests.
How Do I Become a Patient?
You can inquire about our services by contacting the clinic coordinator at 954-262-5834. When you call, you will be asked to provide some information about yourself or your child so that we may help you determine if our program is right for you. The screening process takes only 15 minutes, so do not hesitate to call. If our program is not a good fit for you, we can direct you to another program.
How Long Will It Take?
Assessment services are generally provided during the first session, which lasts approximately 2 hours. During this session, clients are asked to complete initial paperwork, provide background information regarding their current difficulties in functioning and their reason for seeking services. After this initial session, the client and their therapist will meet each week for 1-2 sessions, each 50 minutes in duration, depending on the client's needs and desire.
How Much Will I Pay?
Our clinic operates on a sliding scale, for both assessment and treatment services.
What will therapy be like?
The PSED program provides treatment services to adults, adolescents, and children (ages 4 and older) with serious and chronic emotional disturbance. The main therapeutic approach used in this program is based on psychodynamic principles and can be described as:
- Collaborative
- Insight-Oriented
- Talk Therapy
- Intensive
- Long-term
However, in order to meet the individual needs of our clients an eclectic approach to therapy is utilized overall. The goal of the program is to provide the best possible treatment services in the least restrictive environment for individuals with serious emotional disorders. Our belief is that individuals with serious emotional disorders can benefit from intensive psychotherapy that involves lengthier sessions that occur with greater frequency. Therapy focuses on exploring the past and present in order to create a more satisfying and adaptive future. Among the services this program offers is individual and family therapy and psychological testing.
