RISE shares the Trust’s vision of using research-based measures to evaluate overall program quality as well as outcome changes in reading, fitness, and social behavior

School-Age Care Environment Rating Scale (SACERS)

The SACERS
is a comprehensive rating scale that is used to assess the quality of out-of-school programs in six (6) areas that mirror those of the Quality OOS Standards: Space & Furnishings; Health & Safety; Activities; Interactions; Program Structure; and Staff Development.  There is also a set of supplementary items for centers that include children with special needs.

Project RISE uses the results from the SACERS to identify areas that need extra support and training.  Areas of concern are identified through provider self-assessment and through external assessment by independent evaluators.  As such, all Trust-funded agencies are required to conduct a self-evaluation using the SACERS for each site.

A hands-on workshop that focuses on conducting a SACERS evaluation is now available.
