Deadline: Various The Ethel Louise Armstrong Foundation was founded in 1994 to "Change the Face of Disability on the Planet." The foundation supports the work of organizations in advocacy, education, leadership development, mentoring, and the arts for people with disabilities. The ELA Foundation awards two scholarships each year to women with disabilities who are pursuing an advanced degree at a university in the United States. The purpose of the scholarship is to supplement financial assistance received by female graduate students. Application procedures and forms are available at the ELA Foundation Web site or by contacting the foundation's offices (deadlines :May 1, 2002 5:00 PM (Pacific Daylight Time) and November 1, 2002, 5:00 PM (Pacific Standard Time). In addition to its scholarship program, the foundation seeks to fund programs of organizations that are led by or support the work of people with disabilities, with an emphasis on programs for women and girls. In particular, the foundation encourages distinctive projects where the organization is making a difference nationally or inter- nationally and where programs are supported by the local community and meet the needs of people with disabilities in that community. Grants from the foundation range from $ 1,000 to $5,000 per project. Support from other sources in the community must be demonstrated in the grant application before a grant will be considered (annual deadlines: May 1 and November 1).
