Requirements for the Post-professional Distance Doctoral Degree
Programs (PhD &
DrOT) |
The Occupational Therapy doctoral programs select
students based on cumulative GPA, GRE scores, interviews, and personal
statements, letters of recommendation, and potential for leadership
and scholarship.
- Applicants without Occupational Therapy certification
must complete the on campus MOT program.
- Applicants must have either a bachelor's or a master's degree
in Occupational Therapy from a regionally accredited or WFOT approved
university or college and be eligible for a Florida occupational
therapy license.
- Preference for admission will be given to applicants with a
cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a four-point scale for the
last two years of baccalaureate study or graduate program.
- Applicants must submit official scores from the Graduate Record
Examination. All three areas are required and must be less than
five years old.
- Foreign applicants must also take the Test of English as a
Foreign Language (TOEFL) and obtain a score of 550 or higher.
- All applicants must have taken OCT 5174 and 5175 (Research
Methods I and II) or equivalent as prerequisites, or must take
OCT 6006 as an additional requirement in the program.
The Dean is empowered to evaluate the total qualifications
of every applicant and to modify requirements in unusual circumstances.

| Doctoral Program Applicants must Submit:
- A completed application form along with a $50 non-refundable
application fee and a letter of application
- Three letters of recommendation from persons who can evaluate
the applicant's potential for doctoral study
- A letter of application stating goals and reasons for wanting
to pursue doctoral work
- Official scores from the Graduate Record Examination in all
three areas less than 5 years old. Foreign applicants must also
submit Test of English as a Foreign Language Examination (TOEFL)
scores if appropriate
- Official transcripts from all undergraduate, professional and
graduate institutions attended, sent to the Office of Admissions,
Health Professions Division, NSU Occupational Therapy Program,
directly from the institution
- Undergraduate and graduate course work taken at a foreign institution
must be evaluated for U.S. institution equivalence by one of the
three services listed below. You should contact: World Education

to have this course work evaluated, and an official evaluation
must be sent to the Office of Admissions.
- Confirmation of initial certification, or eligibility for certification,
by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy
(NBCOT). Candidates without occupational therapy certification
must complete all courses required to take the national certification
examination. Foreign candidates who intend to do their dissertation
abroad can petition to be released from this requirement.
Upon receipt of the completed application and required credentials,
the Committee on Admissions will notify, in writing, applicants who
are selected for interview. Interviews may be conducted by telephone
for applicants to the distance doctoral programs. No applicant will
be admitted to the Occupational Therapy Program without an interview,
but an invitation to appear for an interview should not be construed
by the applicant as evidence of acceptance. Notice of acceptance or
other action by the Committee on Admissions will be on a "rolling"
or periodic schedule. Early completion of the application is therefore
in the best interest of the student. |
