Curriculum Vitae

Research Work Description:
Several projects examine compositional changes of reef fish assemblages resulting from habitat variability and habitat alteration while others involve examination of spatio-temporal recruitment/settlement patterns. Data from natural and artificial reefs are primarily collected using underwater visual surveys. Current projects examine: 1) Depth-variable predation intensity on newly settled Haemulon (Haemulidae), 2) mitigation effectiveness for buried nearshore hardbottom fish habitat, 3) differences in reef fish assemblages in Veracruz Coral Reef System National Park (Veracruz, Mexico), and 4) reef fish assemblage structure and larval supply variability in Eleuthera, The Bahamas.

In addition to the fish research, I analyze coastal sedimentation along Broward County, Florida to monitor the effects of beach renourishment activities. I also teach undergraduate biology for NSU as an adjunct professor.

Title of thesis/dissertation research project:
Multiexperimental examination of spatial recruitment and settlement patterns of grunts of the genus Haemulon (Pisces: Haemulidae)

Thesis Advisor: Dr. Richard Spieler

Academic areas of interest:
Reef fish ecology, fisheries science, visual census, artificial reefs, Haemulidae, fish pathology, larval fishes, biostatistics, resource management
