Dr. Serrano has been involved in research and regulation programs involving ecology, biology, biogeography, taxonomy and natural history of invertebrates; impacts of human activities on natural areas; restoration of natural areas; agriculture; forest and shade tree pests and ornamental plant pests. He has also worked in numerous state parks throughout Florida and in Everglades National Park.

Dr. Serrano is currently contracted to create an electronic / web-based interactive identification and information tool (Lucid Tool) for the United States Department of Agriculture.

He also has a passion for education and has taught groups of all levels (ages 5-90, museum patrons; elementary, middle and high schools; undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate).

Dr. Serrano has a comprehensive and authoritative knowledge of South Florida ecology, flora, fauna and ecosystems.

When not in classroom or in the field, he enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking and fishing, brewing wine and beer from his crops and other agricultural activities at home with his wife and child.
