NSU creates Guy Harvey Research Institute

Sun-Sentinel, December 10, 2000

Nova Southeastern University has announced the creation of the Guy Harvey Research Institute.

Renowned marine artist and marine biologist Guy Harvey, along with NSU Oceanographic Center Dean Richard Dodge and professors Richard Spieler and Charles Messing, formally announced the creation of the Guy Harvey Research Institute.

The Guy Harvey Research Institute (GHRI) is a scientific research organization formed as a collaboration between Harvey and NSU's Oceanographic Center. The GHRI has been established to assume a leadership role in providing the scientific information necessary for effective conservation and restoration of fish resources and biodiversity from a local to global scale.

The mission of the Guy Harvey Research Institute is to conduct high-quality, solution-oriented, basic and applied biological science research needed for effective conservation, restoration, enhancement, biodiversity maintenance and understanding of the world's wild fish resources. The GHRI, through Nova Southeastern University, also provides advanced graduate training to U.S. and international students in disciplines related to these conservation goals.

The Guy Harvey Research Institute forms part of Nova Southeastern University's Oceanographic Center campus, located at the entrance of Port Everglades on a 10-acre waterfront site in Dania Beach.
