Media Dive/Snorkel Schedule for Sept. 27 NSU Coral Reef Center Grand Opening

8 a.m. – Media and NSU President George Hanbury meet at the NSU’s Center of Excellence for Coral Reef Ecosystems Research center. It’s located at tip of John U. Lloyd Beach State Park in Hollywood, Fla.

9 a.m. – Two boats leave NSU marina – the chartered boat with media and the president, and NSU research boat with scientists.

9 to 11 a.m. – Boats will hit NSU offshore coral reef nurseries that are less than a mile off Ft. Lauderdale. First dive/snorkel is in 22 feet of water. There are three possibilities for the second dive/snorkel, depending on visibility.  They are all close to each other. Two are at 12 feet and one is at 15 feet. NSU scientists will lead dive/snorkel. Good video, stills and underwater b-roll opportunities, and NSU President George Hanbury surveying the coral reef nurseries with the divers.

11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. – Boats return to NSU marina at John U. Lloyd Beach State Park.

11:30 a.m. to noon – Shower/change and interviews.

Noon – Lunch, media interviews, and tours of new coral reef research center. B-roll opportunities.

3:30 p.m. – Grand opening starts. U.S. Congresswoman and Democratic National Committee Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Weston), who helped NSU secure a $15 million federal stimulus grant to fund the center, will be the keynote speaker.
