“…When I reach my retirement as a paramedic in two years, I want to expand my nursing beyond the emergency room. My BSN will get me there. From a personal stand point, you learn new things at NSU, like how to communicate with your colleagues. It is enriching…”

At NSU, we offer:
Active Learning Classroom Strategies
At NSU, we recognize that learning comes through effective collaboration and by examining different perspectives. Our faculty appreciates mutual goal setting with individuals, families, groups and communities. This interactive environment is what makes our program so enriching. It starts with shared knowledge and respect among students and instructors.
Shared Knowledge
Many nursing education programs consider the instructor as the information provider; knowledge flows primarily from the instructor to the student. In contrast, NSU’s cooperative classrooms are modeled around shared knowledge. Although the instructor has vital knowledge about the nursing practice and skill development, our collaborative instructors also value and build upon the knowledge and nursing experiences that students bring to the learning situation.
Instructors as Facilitators
In addition to sharing knowledge and expertise, our teaching philosophy encourages students to take responsibility for learning. NSU faculty act as facilitators rather than lecturers. We provide our students with support to approach new concepts and skills, enabling them to excel within the nursing profession.
