NSSLHA Day at ASHA, 2006!

The NSSLHA Executive Council has been busy preparing activities for NSSLHA Day at the ASHA Convention on

Friday, November 17, 2006. 

The schedule for NSSLHA Day is as follows:  

Morning Sessions

Session 1: "Ethics: It's More than Common Sense!"
Time:
9:00 AM – 10:30 AM
Location: Intercontinental Hotel,  Room: Trianon
Presenters: Shelly Chabon, Lissa Power-deFur, Jaynee Handelsman, Sue Hale  

Students and new professionals here is your chance to learn more about the: delegation of clinical responsibilities for fellowship supervision, effects of services rendered and products dispensed, KASA records and certification issues, provision of services that lie within the respective scope of practice, conflicts of interest, and responsibility for reporting suspected ethical practice violations to the Board of Ethics. Scenarios that resemble actual case situations will be utilized. The session will conclude with a summary of the ethical principles discussed, and a question and answer period.  

Session 2: Finding your niche in ASHA!

: 11:00 AM – 12:00 Noon
Location: Intercontinental Hotel, Room: Trianon
Presenters: Paula Sullivan, Joe Montano   Students transitioning from NSSLHA to ASHA may find it overwhelming as they attempt to connect with other members who share their interest in specific disorder types or professional issues. With more than 115,000 members of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, new clinical fellows may feel lost or isolated. Students and new professionals are invited to hear about the continuing education, networking and leadership opportunities within the 16 special interest divisions of ASHA! Find your professional niche! You may win a free membership!

Purchase your tickets to SALSA Night and the Luncheon and Awards Ceremony in advance via the online ASHA Convention Registration website, paper Convention Registration form, or by calling Expo Exchange at 301-694-5243.  Tickets can also be purchased during the Convention at the Ticket Counter of the Registration area in the Miami Beach Convention Center. ………………………………………………………………………………………… Lastly, is there an issue you wish the NSSLHA Executive Council knew about?  Is there a problem you wish NSSLHA would address? Here is your chance to voice your opinion and concerns to your NSSLHA leaders.   National NSSLHA invites all members to speak directly to the Executive Council at the 2006 ASHA Convention during the Membership Forum on Saturday, November 18 from 10-11 AM.   If you plan to attend the Convention, you may sign-up to speak at the EC meeting on Wednesday, November 15 and Thursday, November 16 at the NSSLHA Booth.  You may also sign up at the NSSLHA Annual Luncheon and Awards Ceremony on Friday, November 17:   Each speaker must complete and submit a Request to Speak form.  It will be your responsibility to hold onto and submit your Request to Speak form at the NSSLHA EC meeting on Friday, November 17. To access a Request to Speak form you may: ·         complete the Request to Speak form on the NSSLHA Website at: http://www.nsslha.org/NSSLHA/council/speakrequestform.htm by Thursday, November 2, 2006 ·         complete the Request to Speak form outside the NSSLHA Annual Luncheon and Awards Ceremony on Friday, November 17, 2006 ·         complete the Request to Speak form at the NSSLHA Booth at any time during the Convention   Those signed up will have a maximum of 5 minutes to speak.   If you are unable to attend the Convention, please access your Request to Speak form from the NSSLHA website and e-mail your request to your Regional Council by Monday, November 13, 2006.
