PROCEEDINGS

The organizing committee of the 11th International Coral Reef Conference in Fort Lauderdale, Florida (July 7-11, 2008) would like to extend a hearty welcome to all attendees and post the first call for submission of articles for the proceedings.

An up to two-volume (depending on submissions) printed version and/or CD with .pdf files of all articles will be made available. Attendees will be given the opportunity to receive either CD or printed or CD plus printed versions, depending on their level of concern for the conference’s carbon footprint.

The editorial committee encourages early submission of manuscripts. The electronic submissions manager is open and ready to receive your manuscripts, which will be accepted until latest three months after the conference (deadline: October 15th). Submissions are allowed a maximum of five pages length (including citations and illustrations) and must conform to the guidelines published on the 11 ICRS website. Upon submission, authors are asked to indicate their session number so that their chairs, who will be responsible for organizing the review process of manuscripts submitted in their sessions, can be readily identified. Failure to strictly adhere to the rules of submission will result in the manuscript not being accepted.

In the interest of timely publication of the proceedings, we ask for the cooperation of all authors by carefully taking note of the provided guidelines and submitting their correctly formatted manuscripts as early as possible.

Please note: While the printed version of the Proceedings will be in black-and-white only, the pdf version on CD will be in full color. Thus, you can include color plates with your submission. The hard-copy will be printed in black-and-white. We are following the procedures adopted by major publishers of scientific literature, with the exception that to keep the cost of the hard-copy Proceedings lower, we presently can not offer the opportunity to pay extra for color plates.

HOW TO PREPARE YOUR MANUSCRIPT FOR THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE 11TH ICRS, JULY 2007, FT. LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA.

PREPARING YOUR MANUSCRIPT

Please prepare your final manuscript following the instructions below. Please also refer to the example. (Word document template)

  • Paper size is 8 ˝ x 11 inch (US Letter size)
  • Top, bottom, and right margins are 1 inch, left margin is 1.25 inches.
  • Begin the first line with the following text in 8 point Times New Roman font: Proceedings of the 11th International Coral Reef Symposium, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, 7-11 July 2008
  • Immediately underneath, in Times New Roman, 8 point indicate your session number, e.g. Session number XX
  • Insert 2 single-spaced blank lines (leaving the font set to 8 point) before you type the title of your manuscript.
    • Title should be Arial 16 point, bold, centered.
    • Authors should be typed in Arial 10 point, Bold.
    • Spell out only last names
  • Title, authors, and addresses in a single column format, centered.
  • Abstract in one column, 200 words maximum, Times New Roman, 10 point, block set
  • Key Words: After a blank line, insert up to five Key Words
  • Insert a solid line and a blank line between the keywords and Introduction.
  • Set the format to double columns, with the space between two columns 0.2 inches.
  • Formats:
    • Type the other part of the text in Times New Roman, 10 point.
    • First-order Headings such as Abstract, Introduction, etc. should be in Times New Roman 10 point, Bold.
    • Second-order Headings should be in Times New Roman 10 point, Italic Capitals and lower-case letters.
    • Third-order Headings should be in Times New Roman 10 point, Roman Capitals and lower-case letters.
  • Insert one blank line above each heading. Do not insert blank lines between text and the headings.
  • The References should follow the same style as used for the journal "Coral Reefs". They are formatted in 8 point Times New Roman. The Acknowledgements are also in 8 point Times New Roman.
  • When citing figures or tables in the text, cite them as Fig. 1, Table 1, and Fig. 1-2.
  • Figures are to be embedded by author. Use tiff or eps format, making sure resolution is sufficient (best around 300 dpi) and text is large enough to be legible.
  • Maximum length of the manuscript is 5 pages, including all figures, titles, references.

SUBMITTING YOUR MANUSCRIPT

  • Submit your finished and formatted version, including all figures as a MS Word file through the upload manager before 15 October 2008. Only manuscripts submitted through the upload manager will be accepted. DO NOT send files to the proceedings editor or chairs directly, unless specifically directed to do so. Identify your session on your manuscript.
  • Upon first submission, the session chairs will check whether the manuscript conforms to the required format. If it does not, it will be returned to you.

SUBMITTING THE FINAL VERSION OF YOUR MANUSCRIPT

Submission of your final version of the manuscript: After receiving the reviews, please introduce all changes as directed by the session chair and then submit the finished, proofed version of the manuscript. You will receive typeset proofs, but have only very limited allowance for changes at that stage.
