From the Executive Director
In 1991, the Mailman Segal Institute Tampa (formerly the Family
Center of Tampa Bay) was founded through a grant from the Children's
Board of Hillsborough County to enhance the quality of child
care programs. That project, entitled Project PITCH, was one
of the first in the nation to enhance child care quality by helping
child care centers work toward national accreditation.
Since then,
the work of the institute has expanded through various projects
funded by grants, contracts and private foundations.
MSI Tampa parallels the work of MSI in the areas of the development
of strategies to improve the quality of child care, understanding
the roots of literacy, the development of a range of innovative
training opportunities that respond to the needs and challenges
of agencies, professionals and practitioners working with young
children and their families.
Our staff provides on-site training and technical assistance
to child care providers; customized training for professionals,
paraprofessionals, parents and policy makers on a variety of
topics; and workplace seminars that focus on balancing work and
family life.
We welcome the opportunity to work towards and advocate for
quality care for the children of our community.
