What is Sharkey's Reading Club?

It is a fun-filled way to encourage kids to continue to read. We give each participant a reading log and Sharkey's Reading Club membership card to keep track of their monthly reading.

Who can join?

Any child, from pre-schoolers through elementary school age, can join Sharkey's Reading Club. You just need to have an Alvin Sherman Library card. Your Alvin Sherman Library card is your ticket to a world of fun and adventure. If you or your child doesn't have one yet you can apply at www.nova.edu/library/card or stop by our circulation desk.

How do I sign up?

Sign up for Sharkey's Reading Club will kickoff at our special library card month event on Saturday, September 12, 2009. For details about the event click here. After September 12th, sign up will be available at the Sharkey's Reading Club table in the Public Library Services department on the first floor.

When does Sharkey's Reading Club begin and end?

Thursday, October 1, 2009 is the first day and Wednesday, March 31, 2010 is the last day.

What about kids who can't read yet?

A parent or caregiver can read to their pre-reading child.

How does Sharkey's Reading Club work?

Step 1: Set a reading goal with your child based on either the number of pages or the amount of time you wish your child to read either daily or weekly. (You may want to consider setting a goal for yourself as well!)

Step 2: Keep track on the "official" Sharkey's Reading Club reading log.

Step 3: When you have achieved your goal for the month, bring your reading log and Sharkey's Reading Club membership card to the Public Library Services desk. We will punch the Sharkey's Reading Club membership card and your child will then earn a visit to the Sharkey's Reading Club Treasure Chest for their monthly reward. We will also give you a new reading log for the coming month.
