Alvin Sherman Library Resources

1. Public Databases: Go to our Electronic Resources and search for the following databases:

  • Literature Resource Center
    For information on African-American authors and their works, click on the "Authors by Type" button. Then choose "African-American" under "Author ethnicity" and click on the Search button. You'll find full-text information on everyone from Maya Angelou to Ahmos Zu-Bolton, II, and over 275 others.


  • Student Resource Center
    For information on black history and biographical information, click on the "Geography and Cultures Search" button. Then click the circle by the word "Cultures". In the pulldown menu choose "African-Americans". Then click on the Search button. You'll find topic overviews, full-text documents and biographical information.

2. Books and other materials: Search NovaCat, the NSU libraries catalog, using any of the following keywords:

  • black history
  • african american literature
  • african american scientists
  • african american education
  • See a complete list of subjects in NovaCat
