About Circulation
The Circulation Department is located on the first floor of the Alvin Sherman Library, Research and Information Technology Center. The mission of the Circulation Department is to provide high quality services to NSU and Broward Community (NSU Staff, faculty, NSU Alumni, students, Seflin members and Broward Residents.
The Circulation Department is responsible for maintaining the collection of over 400,000 volumes of books, journals, dissertations, and audios. Our primary responsibility is to assist the patrons in obtaining a library card, checking out and renewing materials such as books, study rooms, course reserve materials, and to aid patrons with the photocopy and cash card machines. We also mail overdue and fine notices, which display fines incurred on a patron's record. Until all overdue materials are returned and fines paid then the patron's borrowing privileges are suspended.
We shelf read everyday and books that are missing for more than 6 months are re-ordered. This demonstrates how we work in liaison with other departments in order for the Sherman Library to run smoothly. Another example that portrays our unity is that the Circulation Department works with the Collection Development Department and the Cataloging Department in processing new books and materials recently ordered. In addition, we work hand-in-hand with the Interlibrary Loan Department by distributing books and articles requested by patrons. We also participate in library and university committees to develop and implement better customer service, library policies, and procedures to better serve the NSU Community.
