To check out materials please visit the Circulation Desk. It is a
requirement to present your NSU ID/Library card to the staff when you
are ready to check out items at the Alvin Sherman Library, Research,
and Information Technology Center. We do not accept driver's licenses
or Broward County Library (BCL) cards to check out materials.
If you are an NSU student, staff, or faculty member, your NSU ID is your library card. If you live, work, or attend school in Broward County, you are eligible to apply for a library card. Please click here for details...
Check out stops 15 minutes before closing, without exceptions.
If the item is NOT overdue and there are no holds placed on it, you may renew it as follows:
You must renew before or on the due date in order to do this successfully, whether via online or over the phone. If your item is overdue, you must pay any outstanding fines before renewing or checking out items (see below for details on fines).
For detailed borrowing privilege information, select your patron type:
If library materials are not returned by the due date, an overdue notice will be sent, and if necessary, a final notice stating the charges incurred for the item(s). Borrowing privileges will be suspended until all overdue materials are returned and/or fines paid.
Library blocks may be put in effect if the fines are in excess of $5.00. NSU students or staff records that are blocked will result to unavailabilty of student transcripts, and/or graduation.
Lost library cards will be billed as follows: For Broward County patrons $5.00 for a replacement card. NSU student, faculty or staff can get a replacement card through the Card Office in the Don Taft University Center.
Fines can be paid with a personal check, money order, or with cash on a Smart Card (for university affiliates), or a Alvin Sherman Library card (for the public). Charges for returned checks may apply. Cash and credit card payment methods are not available.
