Database and Description

Testing & Education Reference Center (TERC) from Gale Group/InfoTrac
Detailed information on colleges, universities, private secondary schools, specialty programs, and scholarships. Users can search by location, major, tuition, size, sports, religion, student/faculty ratio, GPA, and other criteria. The “Scholarship Search” feature allows users to identify possible sources of financial aid based on criteria such as nationality or ethnic origin, major, GPA, memberships, interests, extracurricular activities, etc. The "Test Preparation" section provides practice tests and test preparation materials for numerous academic, civil service, and licensing tests. Individual registration (free) is required for test practice and scholarship searches.

The TERC can be accessed via the Databases section. NSU patrons and registered Broward patrons may access this database remotely. All other users may access from within the library.

Foundation Grants to Individuals
Searchable, comprehensive database of more than 4,000 foundations and public charities that provide funds for a wide range of individual needs, including educational support (scholarships and student loans); general welfare; arts and cultural support; awards, prizes, and grants by nomination; international applicants; company employees (education and general welfare); students and graduates of specific schools; and research and professional support. Please note: Many corporate and private foundations do not distribute directly to individuals. Rather, they award grants for scholarships and fellowships to educational institutions, which in turn distribute the funds through their financial-aid offices.

Foundation Grants to Individuals is accessible only via a computer in the Grants and Reference Collection of the Alvin Sherman Library. The database is not accessible remotely.

FC Search
This CD-ROM database from The Foundation Center is available for public use on a computer in the Grants Reference Collection. Users may print or download information at no charge. An instructional flyer and a manual are available at the library.
FC Search provides access to the Foundation Center’s database of foundation and corporate grantmakers, as well as their associated grants. Choose from 21 search criteria to generate lists of funding prospects. FC Search includes profiles of close to 50,000 U.S. foundations and corporate givers; the names and foundation affiliations of over 200,000 trustees, officers, and donors who make the funding decisions at these institutions; and descriptions of more than 200,000 newly reported grants. FC Search also allows users to link directly to the Web sites of over 600 grantmakers.
FC Search includes data found in The Foundation Directory; The Guide to U.S. Foundations, Their Trustees, Officers, and Donors; The National Directory of Corporate Giving; and The Foundation Grants Index.

FC Search is accessible only via a computer in the Grants and Reference Collection of the Alvin Sherman Library. The database is not accessible remotely.
