Locating and Obtaining Dissertations

Dissertions from: All Academic Institutions | Nova Southeastern University

Dissertations from All Academic Institutions

Dissertations and Theses Database
To find citations to dissertations from any academic institution (including NSU), use the Dissertations and Theses database from ProQuest. (Log in via Databases.) Please note that not all NSU dissertations are submitted to this database, and therefore, they may not be available in Dissertations and Theses. Full text is available online in Dissertations and Theses for many dissertations from 1997-present.

For dissertations not available online, but indexed in Dissertations and Theses, there are several options for obtaining a copy:

  • They can be purchased directly from Dissertations and Theses for a $32.00 charge for an unbound, paper copy.

  • For qualified NSU doctoral students only, the Document Delivery Department will purchase up to two dissertations at no cost to the student. Orders for one or both free dissertations MUST be placed through Document Delivery, not the Dissertations and Theses database. To proceed, log into the ILLIAD system and indicate in the form that you are requesting your free dissertation(s).

  • Distance students and non-NSU students may use interlibrary loan (ILL) through their local library. Local NSU students may use the NSU Interlibrary Loan Department. Local NSU students, please use the ILLIAD system and indicate that you are requesting a loan. Please note that less than half of all dissertations can be obtained through the interlibrary loan (ILL) system, and can take many months to obtain.

Additional Websites
In addition to the Dissertations and Theses database, there are numerous public websites which provide varying amounts of information on dissertations and theses from all over the world. Depending on the website, they may provide citations, abstracts and some full text. Some websites provide information on dissertations that are "in progress". See Dissertations/Theses Websites.

Dissertations from NSU, including specific NSU Schools and Centers

There are several sources for citations to NSU dissertations depending on the relevant NSU School/Center. Full-text may be available online or in the library in microfiche or print.

Fischler School of Education and Human Services (FSEHS)

  1. Citations and abstracts for some NSU dissertations from FSEHS may be found in the ERIC database. ERIC also includes full text for many of these dissertations. See detailed instructions on Locating dissertations in ERIC.

  2. NSU students, faculty and staff only may use the MARPs, Practicums & Applied Dissertations Database to find citations to applied dissertations. (Log in via Databases.) This database also includes full-text (PDF) for many of the more recent applied dissertations.

Other MARPs, practicums and applied dissertations are available in microfiche only; they are not available in print. To obtain microfiche documents:

    • Local students should call the Reference Desk (954-262-4613) during reference desk hours before coming to the library to request retrieval of the microfiche. Please tell the reference librarian the name, title, and number found on your citation.

    • Distance students may request copies via the ILLIAD system.
