Finding Information on Mergers & Acquisitions

Information about mergers and acquisitions and the companies involved is available in several of the library’s subscribed databases including ABI/Inform Complete, LexisNexis Academic and Livedgar. Details of this kind of information are difficult to find using free online search engines, so try the library database first.

Now, let us do an exercise using Lexis/Nexis Academic to find business information on mergers or acquisitions. For more information about how to use Lexis/Nexis Academic, take a look at http://www.nova.edu/library/dils/lessons/lexis/.

Activity 4

Finding Information on Mergers and Acquisitions

  1. Go to the Alvin Sherman Library at www.nova.edu/library/main/ and click on the Electronic Resources link at the top of the page.
  2. From the drop-down menu, select the "Databases" link and then select "NSU Patron".
  3. Under "Browse by database name", select the letter "L".
  4. Scroll the list and select "Livedgar - Global Securities Information.
  5. When prompted enter your "SharkLink ID" and "SharkLink Password" and then select the Submit button.
  6. Scroll to the bottom of the page, select the "I Agree" button and then select "GO". Located in the lower left corner of the page.
  7. From the "Main Menu" under "Corporate Finance and M&A", select "Mergers & Acquisitions"
  8. Select the "Acquirer" tab, then type in the "name of a company" in the Name box.
  9. Select the "Submit" button.
  10. Enter the information below: 
Name of the company: 
 
What company did it merge with?
