STEP 1
Finding Journal Articles About Information in the Public Sector

There are several online databases with excellent full-text articles. ABI/Inform, a ProQuest database, contains the most scholarly journal articles. It is also a good place to find new releases about companies and product information.

Activity 1

Finding Journal Articles About Information in the Public Sector

  1. Go to the Business Resource Library Guide site at http://nova.campusguides.com/dilshsbe
  2. Go to the second column, scroll down to "Locate Academic Resources" the third box, and click "ABI/Inform Complete."
  3. When prompted enter your "SharkLink ID" and "SharkLink Password" and then select the Submit button.
  4. In the first search box, type in a search term (such as technology).
  5. In the second search box, type in a "keyword" that you would like to know more about, such as 'public sector'.
  6. Click on the Search button, and take a look at the results list.
  7. Select a record of a journal article, and enter the information from the journal record below:
Author(s):

Date of publication:

Article Title:

Journal Title:

Volume, Issue #, and Page #s:

Is the article peer-reviewed/refereed?
  Yes  No  Not sure
Did you locate the full-text of the article online ?
  Yes  No  Not sure

8. Evaluate the results. Take a look in particular at the articles located by clicking on the "Scholarly Journals" and the "Trade Publications" in the toolbar to the right of the results list.

Tips for Finding Out if Articles Are Available Full Text in Another NSU Database

Not all business articles are available full-text online. You can use the NSU Full Text Journal Title Search option to see if the journal is full text in one of the library's other 200 databases. If the journal is not full text in the library's databases:

  • On-Campus Students: You may be able to retrieve your article from the shelves in the Periodical Collection. Search NovaCat, NSU's online library catalog, using the journal title to determine if the journal is available in paper or microform in the library. If the journal is not in the library, you can order the article through our Interlibrary Loan/ILLiad department using the online request forms at https://illiad.library.nova.edu/FNN/logon.html

Tips for Citing Journal Articles Retrieved from Online Databases

Journal articles that are retrieved full text online need to include a retrieval statement in the citation. For example:

Tunon, J. (2004). Bibliographic instruction for distance students. Research Strategies, 32(2),

22-45. Retrieved from http://www.elsevier.com/wps/find/journaldescription
