NovaCat allows users to place a "holds request" on items for pickup or
- Local users (pick-up book at library circulation desk)
- Distance users (book delivery via FedEx)
You can place a hold on items in two ways:
- By phone: Call the Circulation Desk - 954-262-4601 | 1-800-541-6682, ext. 24601
- Online: While searching the NovaCat catalog, look for either the "HOLD
or "ORDER FOR DELIVERY" buttons. You
must choose one based upon to your affliation to the library.
Step 1 - USER LOGIN INSTRUCTIONS:
If you are a local user (ex. Broward County resident) login
with "Last Name and Sherman Library Card Number.
Broward County Users - Use the "Tan" login box
If you are a currently enrolled student,
staff, or faculty (local or distance) login with your "SharkLink ID
and Password (which is also your NSU email password)
NSU students, staff and faculty - Use the "Blue" login
Step 2 - HOLD REQUEST VERIFICATION:
Once you have logged-in, select a date and then the "Submit" button.

Once you have submitted your hold request, you will see the screen below.
If your Broward County Patron Record does not have an "e-mail
you can add your
address by selecting the "Click here" link
to edit your record.
Without an e-mail address, you cannot be notified of when
a book is ready for pick-up.
Step 3 - EDIT YOUR ACCOUNT:
To access your account, select the "Edit
Account Details" button.
If you do not have an e-mail address on file, you will see suggestions of "free
account" providers (above) where you can easily create an email account:
In English: AOL | Gmail | Hotmail | YahooMail | more
In Spanish: Gmail | Hotmail | YahooMail | more
Add / Edit Your E-mail Address
Update your account by adding / editing your e-mail address then select
the "Submit" button.
PROBLEM PLACING A HOLD REQUEST
- You already have a hold or checkout on this item.
(Reasons: The patron has already placed a hold on said item)
- You may have reached your hold limit or there is an issue with your
library record that is preventing you from placing the hold. Please contact
the library for more information.
Reasons: reached hold limit, record expired, money owed, etc,)
- You are not permitted to put a hold on this item.
(Reason: due to a loan rule)
