Introduction
-
Use the Journal Finder to determine if a particular journal
is available full-text or full-image in any of NSU's online databases. This
search engine is particularly
helpful if you have done a search in a database which does not have full-text,
the journal you want may be in one of our other databases that does include
full-text.
DISCLAIMER: Journal Finder is updated
every two months. Titles may be added or deleted by a database provider at
any time, so discrepancies between your search results and what is available
in a database may occur. All changes made in a database's journal list will
be incorporated at the next regular bimonthly update.

Search Tips
-
Use advanced search features to modify a search to obtain more successful search
results. You can combine advanced search features to modify and improve your
search. Advanced search features often include:
- phrase or proximity searching
- field searching
- date
- document and/or publication type
- Boolean operators
- plurals and truncation
One useful tip when searching any electronic database is to leave out articles,
prepositions, and very abstract or general termsthey confuse the database's
search engine.
For example, if the paper is on "The Impact of Mainstreaming Students
in Math Classes,” use the most precise terms like mainstreaming and mathematics
and skip impact, the, of, and in.
When using Journal Finder:
- Try excluding and then using the leading article "the".
For example, type: American Journal of Medicine , and then try:
The American Journal of Medicine.
- Try both "and" and "&".
For example, try: Business and Society, as well as: Business &
Society.

What's the difference between full-text and full-image?
- Full text is just the text of the article-npictures, charts, graphs, columns,
etc.
- Full image is similar to a photocopy of the article on your monitor.
A full-image includes a black and white copy of the article just as is appeared
in print, with pictures, charts, graphs, etc. To view full image articles
Adobe Acrobat Reader software must be installed on the computer tview the
document. This free software, unsupported by NSU, can be downloaded at www.adobe.com
From your search results list
- select the database that is indicated on the Journal Finder search
results screen
- search the selected database with
- the name of the journal you are looking for-limit your search
tthe journal or source or publication field (field name will vary depending
on the database you select)
- if you have a specific citation, further limit by using field
searches for one or more of the following: author or article title or
date

Select a database from search results and search for the desired publication.
If the periodical you are looking for is not available
online, your search results will be indicated as "0 records retrieved
for the search:"- you will need to attempt to locate a paper copy
of the article.
