Introduction

The Electronic Resources section is a collection of electronic or online resources available from the NSU Libraries. Many of these resources can be accessed remotely (off-campus). This collection includes

databases
library catalogs
online journals & newspapers
Internet resources

Computing Requirements

To access the library’s online resources, students will need:

A computer–IBM-compatible, Mac, or other.
A modem, DSL, or network connection. Network filters or firewalls may prevent database access.
A Web browser, such as Netscape, Microsoft’s Internet Explorer, etc.
An account with a local Internet Service Provider, such as EarthLink.

An NSU library account for NSU students, faculty, and staff, or an NSU-issued library card, for Broward County public users.

Accessing

Follow these steps to access the Electronic Resources:

1. Go to the NSU Libraries Web page at http://www.nova.edu/library.
2. Select the Alvin Sherman Library, Research, and Information Technology Center.
3. Select Electronic Resources.

Navigating

The Electronic Resources Web page provides access to a variety of library resources. Click on an area of the screen below or scroll down for more information about each section of the Electronic Resources Web page.

NovaCat Library Catalog

NovaCat is the online catalog for all NSU Libraries. NovaCat identifies materials available in the library collections including:

books
periodicals
CDs, cassettes, and audiobooks
DVDs and videotapes

dissertations and thesis
reserve materials
CD-ROMs, online databases, and other electronic resource

NovaCat is a public resource and can be accessed without logging in. For additional details and information on searching the catalog, see NovaCat tutorial.

Databases

The Databases section provides access to and information on subscription databases available through the NSU Libraries. Several different types of databases and content are available.

Indices to the literature providing citations and/or abstracts
Indices with full text articles, books, dissertations, documents, proceedings
Full text books, reference books, encyclopedias, almanacs, manuals
Full text laws, codes, regulations, legal cases

Directories, catalogs
Statistics, financial data
Tutorials, test preparation, tutoring service
Maps, videos, graphics, recordings
Analysis tools

Access to this section is limited to authorized users, and log in is required. Following log in, users can select a listing of databases organized alphabetically, by subject, by vendor, and/or by appropriateness for grades K-12 (Homework Helpers). The lists provide database links, descriptions, and information on availability of remote access, as well as links to database and research help. Full Text Journal Title Search

Use the Journal Finder to search for a particular journal, newspaper or magazine title in full-text format. The Journal Fnder also provides the dates full text is available for a particular title.
