About the Exhibit

The Alvin Sherman Library, Research, and Information Technology Center presents Spanish Pathways, an exhibit on loan from the Museum of Florida History that examines the numerous effects of Spanish culture on Florida from 1492 through 1992.

Viewers will trace the influence of the Spanish in Florida beginning with their early exploration of the peninsula in the fifteenth century. Other images will investigate the earliest cattle industry, the Navez expedition, De Sotos epic march, Catholic mission sites, St. Augustine, Ft. Mose, Count Galvez and the American Revolution, the Second Spanish Era, Paulina Pedrosa and Las Patriotas, the cigar industry, and the dramatic impact of the 1959 Cuban Revolution on south Florida.

Schedule of Events

In conjunction with this exhibit, the Sherman Library will sponsor a film showing. Also see related programs from Public Library Services.

A band of Spanish conquistadors, led by Pizarro, go up the Amazon in search of gold.
