Explore and Learn More
You love a particular artist and want to find
out more about his technique or you are curious
to know what your antique armoire might be
worth? Yes, you can Google® your search
and probably end up with a great number of
results that then must be sorted. Or you could
consider another route, one that may in the
end help simplify your search.
Our library “tools” are widely
accepted as providing more reliable, high quality
and comprehensive data than those found through
an internet search. Many of our online databases
are very specific to a particular topic.
Take a look at a snapshot of our e-book collections
referencing art below. As a
Broward County resident or NSU student you
have access to these as
well as
our print and e-reference collections. Go
to the Electronic
Resources section of the library
website and click on Databases. Then choose
the appropriate patron type. You must have
an Alvin Sherman Library card or NSU ID to
enter. Broward County residents can apply
online or
visit us at the library. Once you're in our
databases section, click on Browse by subject
and find E-Books. Click to get a list. The following are good resources
for art information: - Xreferplus
Browse topics, then select Art to access
reference books on art, art history
art terms, artists, art images, and
more.
To find art images search for
Bridgeman Art. To further refine your search,
type in your favorite artist, for example,
type in Bridgeman Picasso.
- Greenwood eBooks
View by subject category, then select The
Arts to view various titles on the arts.
- NetLibrary
Do a subject search on Art to browse over
250 eBooks on various art topics.
- Oxford Reference Online
Go to section on Art & Architecture
to find reference books on art, art
history, art terms, artists, architecture
and more. Great for art terms and background
essays.
For more information on art resources available
at the Alvin Sherman Library, see our Subject
Guide to Art. You may also want
to check out www.lii.org,
the Librarian’s Internet Index which
lists an array of websites reviewed and recommended
by Librarians.
