Buddhist Prayer WheelPermanent exhibitLibrary Atrium, First Floor Hand-forged by craftsmen in India, the Buddhist Prayer Wheel on display at the Alvin Sherman Library was blessed by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet during his historic visit to Nova Southeastern University on September 18, 2004. Prayer wheels are used to spread spiritual blessings and well-being throughout the universe. Rolls of thin paper imprinted with myriad copies of the mantra (prayer) Om Mani Padme Hum, printed in Tibetan script, are wound around an axle in a protective container. Tibetan Buddhists believe that saying this mantra and spinning the prayer wheel invokes the powerful benevolent attention and blessings of Chenrezig, the embodiment of compassion. Measuring approximately four feet and weighing 600 pounds, the prayer wheel was donated by local philanthropist Albert Miniaci. |

A grand opening celebration will be held at 5:00 p.m., on Thursday, April 14 to kick off the celebration of St. Lucian culture, music, and food. The NSU community is invited. In past years, expeditions have traveled to Chile, Costa Rica, Malaysia, China, and East Africa. To RSVP for the celebration, please call (954) 262-8079.
