  • Your I-20 is the document you will need to be able to apply for an F-1 student visa. As soon as you receive your NSU acceptance you should submit the I-20 Process Form and all required documents. Required documents:
    • I-20 Process Form
    • Proof of Financial Support
      • Bank statements showing the total cost of attendance for one year, less any scholarships you are receiving from NSU.
      • Financial Sponsorship Form (Required any time a proof of financial support is not in the student’s name, including parental bank statements)
    • Copy of the information page of your passport
    • NSU Transfer Authorization Form (Required only for students already studying in the U.S. on a valid I-20)
  • I-20s will be shipped within four business days once all required documentation is received.  For additional information see Requirements for Obtaining an I-20.
  • Once you receive your I-20 you must apply for your F-1 visa. Obtaining an F-1 student visa can take several weeks or even longer, depending on your home country.
  • Email the Undergraduate Academic Advising Center at or +1 (954) 262-7990 to schedule an in person, phone, or Skype registration appointment.
    • Many courses fill very quickly so students should contact the Undergraduate Academic Advising Center very soon after they receive their NSU acceptance.
  • All students must complete the Student Enrollment Agreement (SEA) in order to register for classes. The SEA requires students to agree with NSU standards and policies.
    • Living on campus is part of the full U.S. American university experience! All F-1 international students with less than 49 credits will be required to live on campus unless they are residing with a parent or legal guardian within Broward, Dade, or Palm Beach county, are married or in a domestic partnership, or are 25 years or older.
    • On-campus housing check-in for Winter 2018 is Friday, January 5th.

All new international F-1 students should plan to arrive on campus on Friday, January 5th.

    • The Office of International Affairs may be able to provide an airport shuttle from the Fort Lauderdale and/or Miami airport(s) on Friday, January 5th, 2018. Please complete the Airport Pickup Interest form by Wednesday, December 27th, 2017.  Shuttle service is NOT guaranteed and shuttle availability will be confirmed by Wednesday, January 3rd, 2018.
    • In the event a shuttle is unavailable, all students should also review the Getting to Campus page for information on how to get to NSU’s main campus in Fort Lauderdale (Davie), Florida.

    • All new undergraduate students at NSU are required to attend TWO orientations:
    • Both orientations will be on Saturday, January 6th for new Winter 2018 students.  New Student Orientation will be from 8:30a-Noon and International Student Orientation times are still To Be Confirmed.
    • Register for BOTH orientations by Monday, January 1st.

    • International Student Check-In is required for all F-1 students on initial NSU I-20s.  Participation in the Check-In is what enables the Office of International Affairs to register a student’s SEVIS record.  Students who fail to attend a check-in will have their SEVIS record and immigration status terminated.  THIS IS A U.S. IMMIGRATION REQUIREMENT AND NO EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE.  Check-Ins will be offered four times a week from January 2-January 26, 2018. Registration is required and space at each is limited.
    • All F-1 undergraduates are automatically enrolled in the NSU Student Health Insurance Plan and your student account will be charged accordingly. If you are insured under another insurance plan, you must opt out of the NSU Student Health Insurance plan each academic year by the given waiver deadline.  The waiver deadline for all incoming Winter 2018 students is February 1, 2018.

    • All students living on campus must submit their immunization records to housing@nova.eduStudents will not be permitted to move in to their on-campus housing unless immunization records are received.

    • Payment for NSU student account charges is due in full at the time of registration.  Students will not be able to check-in to the Residence Life and Housing halls until all requirements to satisfy outstanding student account balances have been fulfilled.  Students may view their student account status including account balance, charges, payments, and financial aid awards in SharkLink.
