Cliff O'Callahan
AAP Section International Child Health Executive Committee, Chair

Middlesex Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program
90 South Main Street
Middletown, CT 06457

Dr. O'Callahan joined the faculty in early 2002 as a pediatric consultant. He has been Director of Nurseries at Middlesex Hospital since 2005. He is responsible for the outpatient pediatric and special care nursery portion of resident training. He is the physician leader for Middletown’s Opportunity Knocks community collaborative that is working on improving the health of 0-5 year olds in the areas of oral, nutritional, and mental health. He is on the Early Head Start Advisory Board, the United Way of Middlesex County Board, and the Middletown School Readiness Council. He is active on the advisory group to the Connecticut chapter of the AAP and is the Chair of the Academy's Section on International Child Health.

He comes "home" to Connecticut after five and a half years of working for the Puyallup Tribe of Indians in Tacoma, Washington, where he was the sole pediatrician in a family practice community health center model. During this time he also served as the Indian Health Service's Maternal Child Health Consultant for the Northwest states. Dr. O'Callahan was a Clinical Assistant Professor at University of Washington. Previous to his time in Tacoma he had spent almost three years building a rural health system of community health workers and midwives in the northern jungles of Guatemala. He returns there each year to continue teaching and community visits, and hopes to continue bringing residents to this exciting program. Dr. O'Callahan leads the International and Community Health Track.
