Nova Southeastern University's Institute for Educational Research in the Health Professions is pleased to announce the fourth meeting of its biannual research conference, the Health Professions Educational Research Symposium (HPERS). The conference is scheduled for January 15, 2011, at Nova Southeastern University's Health Professions Division. Located on a beautiful 300-acre campus in Fort Lauderdale, NSU has more than 25,000 students and is the largest independent institution of higher education in Florida. Fort Lauderdale, known for its near-idyllic climate, merges with the Atlantic for 23 miles of palm-fringed Florida shoreline. Fort Lauderdale offers a wide variety of things to see and do, appealing to guests from around the world.
We have an exciting conference planned with the theme of "Recognizing, Teaching, and Modeling Professionalism." Building on the work of the Carnegie Academy for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, we seek to support the development of educational research and the scholarship of teaching and learning that: 1) fosters significant, long-lasting learning for all students in professional programs; 2) enhances the practice and profession of teaching within the professions; 3) brings recognition and reward to scholarly work about teaching and educational research.
The conference includes a variety of engaging learning activities, including: dynamic keynote speakers, research presentations, workshops, poster presentations, and informal round table discussions. We encourage faculty to review our Call for Abstracts and Proposals for this exciting conference.
The conference was organized around the Martin Luther King holiday to encourage faculty attendance from around the nation. The cost of the HPERS conference ($125 for NSU faculty, $135 for non-NSU faculty) includes:
- Continental breakfast, buffet lunch, and closing reception on Saturday
- Conference program with printed abstracts
- Exhibit hall & scheduled breaks
- Research presentations
- Workshops
- Poster presentations
- Nationally recognized speakers
Time is allotted for social and career networking, sightseeing, and research mentoring. All presentations are offered in a relaxed and informal environment. Our intention is to provide a much-needed forum for the energetic worlds of educational research and teaching and learning within the professions. Attendees will have access to in-depth coverage of their own areas of expertise, but will also benefit from the exchange of ideas and opportunities with those in related areas.
