American Thoracic Society Radiology for Chest Physicians 

Site contains lung disease case studies. Cases include patient's history, radiology images, clinical discussion/differential diagnosis and pathology. Successful completion of the eleven cases is eligible for three hours of AMA Category 1 credit. Site includes a link to the University of Iowa's Virtual Hospital.

Big Picture Book of Viruses

The picture book is the centerpiece of All the Virology on the WWW, a repository of resources and links that aims to collect every virus image available on the Internet. The picture collection features photographs -- made with electron microscopy and computer imaging -- of almost 30 families of viruses. Sort images by the viruses' names, their structures, the organisms that host them, and the diseases they cause. Background information and links accompany each picture. Besides the virus picture book, this Web page includes a list of links to virology-related sites and selection of course notes from online classes.

Digital Journal of Ophthalmology: Digital Grand Rounds 

An extensive list of ocular-related cases, which include history, exam, differential diagnosis, radiology, pathology and final diagnosis. 

eSkeletons Project

Produced at the University of Texas at Austin this site provides an interactive environment in which to examine and learn about skeletal anatomy. This includes: high-quality images of bones, labels of all muscles, articulations, and morphological features and high-resolution 3-D renderings of the skeletal elements in both animation (Quicktime) and interactive virtual reality (VRML) format.

Eye Pathologist

The Eye Pathologist features more than 3500 images and was produced by Duke University Medical Center. Study the anatomy and function of structures such as the lens, cornea, retina, and optic nerve from development through aging. More than 5000 eye diseases are covered from cataracts to Marfan syndrome. Access to this site is currently free but registration is required.

Health Education Assets Library: HEAL (National Digital Library)

The Health Education Assets Library (HEAL) was created as a national repository/referatory of free, web-based multimedia teaching materials in the health sciences. Currently, the HEAL collection is comprised of images, videoclips, audioclips, animations, PowerPoint presentations, and Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) files, covering a wide scope of health educational topics, including anatomy, pathology, neurology, and radiology. Access is free but registration is required.

Heart Sounds - Medstudents (Synapse Publishing)

Site contains a collection of heart sounds including atrial septal defect, mitral stenosis and aortic insufficiency.

Human Anatomy Online

Interactive anatomy atlas with over 100 animated illustrations and thousands of descriptive links. The Interactive Anatomy includes links to such anatomy systems as the nervous system, endocrine system, digestive system, and reproductive systems.

Interactive Images of Disease 

Based at the University of New South Wales School of Pathology, the site includes pathology images, including the history of the illness and a description of each specimen.

Karolinska Institutet's Medical Images and Illustrations

A collection of images for over 15 health sciences including dentistry, neurology, pathology, histology, obstetrics and gynecology, and pediatrics.

National Eye Institute Photos, Images, and Videos

Urbana Atlas of Pathology 

An extensive collection of pathology images based at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Urbana-Champaign. The site is organized into six volumes: general pathology; cardiovascular pathology; endocrine pathology; pulmonary pathology; renal pathology; selected normal images.

WebPath: The Internet Pathology Laboratory 

The laboratory includes images with text and tutorials "that demonstrate gross and microscopic pathologic findings associated with human disease states". Examples of WebPath's resource categories are: general pathology; organ system pathology; histopathology; laboratory exercises, and; mini-tutorials.
