NSU Email Setup Instructions

Depending on how your Outlook was set up, you may have two different sets of instructions. To decide which version you have installed, please follow the instructions below.

  1. Open up Outlook.
  2. Click on Tools. You will see an option, either Accounts or Services.

Now you need to decide how you would like your mail program set up.

You can choose a POP connection, which will download your messages from the server to your computer. The advantage of this, is that it prevents your account from exceeding your disk quota. You would also be able to download your messages from the server, then read them while offline (not connected to the Internet). OR You can choose an IMAP connection, which would allow you to view the messages and folders set up in your account. When you delete messages through an IMAP connection, you delete them from the server. All messages are kept in your NSU email account, NOT on your computer.

  1. Start up Outlook Express.
  2. Click on Tools and select Accounts.
  3. Click on the Mail tab. You will get the following screen:

  4. Click on the Add button and select Mail.
  5. Enter your full name on the following screen, and click on the Next button.

  6. Enter your full Email Address on the following screen, and click on the Next button.

  7. Enter pop.nova.edu on the Incoming mail server: line. Enter pop.nova.edu on the Outgoing mail server: line. Your screen should look like the following. When finished click on the Next button.

  8. Enter your login name on the POP account name: line. Enter your password on the Password: line. Your screen should look like the following. When finished click on the Next button.

  9. Enter a name for this Mail setup on the following screen. When finished click on the Next button.

  10. If you are connecting into the system via a PPP connection, choose Connect using my phone line on the following screen. If you are running on a network choose Connect using my local area network on the following screen. When finished click on the Next button. If you are using a local area network go to step 13 of these instructions.

  11. Select you modem. When finished click on the Next button.
  12. Select your dial up connection. This would be the one you created in Dial-up Networking. For more information on this see the Win95 PPP Setup documentation. When finished click on the Next button.

  13. You have now finished the setup. Click on the Finish button.
  14. If you want to leave a copy of your mail messages on your NSU account, select NSU Mail and click on the Properties button. Click on the Advanced tab. Put a check in the box next to Leave a copy of message on the server. When finished click on the Ok button.

  15. Click on Close on the Internet Accounts screen.
  16. Click on Tools and select Options.
  17. Click on the Send tab. Put a check in the box next to Send messages immediately. The screen should look like the following screen. When finished click on the Ok button.

  1. Open Microsoft Outlook by double-clicking on the icon on your desktop. If you don't have an icon on the desktop you can click on the Start button, go to Programs and click on Microsoft Outlook.
  2. Click the Tools menu and select Accounts

  3. The Internet Accounts dialog box will appear.

  4. Click the Add button on the right side of the box, and then select Mail.

  5. Type the way you want your name displayed in the From field of the outgoing message, then click Next.

  6. Type your email address, then click Next

  7. Change the Incoming Mail Server drop box from POP3 to IMAP. Incoming is imap.nova.edu and Outgoing is imap.nova.edu. Then click Next.

  8. Type the NSU e-mail name next to the Account name field. Type your NSU password in the password field. Place a checkmark next to the statement "Remember password" to have the system automatically type your password for you every time the email server is accessed.

  9. Click Finish. You will return to the Internet Accounts dialog box, then click Close.

Services Setup

Now you need to decide how you would like your mail program set up.

  • Start up Internet Explorer
  • Click on Go and select Read Mail. This will bring up Outlook Express 97.
  • Click on Tools and select Services... This will give you the following screen:

  • Click on Internet Mail and then click on OK. This will give you the following screen:

  • Enter your name on the Full name: line. Enter your NSU email address on the Email address: line. Enter pop.nova.edu on the Internet Mail server line. Enter your login name on the Account name line. Enter your password on the Password line. Your screen should look like the following. When finished click on OK.
