Please be advised that these are the minimum system requirements to use the eLive software and should not replace what is recommended/required by your program. Also, keep in mind that with a faster computer and/or a faster internet connection you will achieve better results.

**Your instructor may utilize the audio features available through eLive. If so, you may need a soundcard with speakers and/or a microphone. For more information on this, please check with your instructor.

Your instructor must be logged in to eLive for any of the tools to be active. If you instructor isn't there you cannot do anything.

#2: The microphone privilege icon next to their name has a yellow glow around it.

Participant information screen

Depending on your session configuration, the moderators in your session may be able to see all private text messages that you send during the session. You will need to ask the moderator about your session configuration, specifically regarding text messages.

During an eLive session, you can easily copy and paste text from another application into the Direct Messaging window or paste URLs into the Web Tour window. This is very helpful as it allows you to create prepared messages to send to others and prepare a list of Web sites to take the participants to so you don't have to spend time in your session typing all of the details.

The default keyboard command for copying text (using both Macs and Windows OS) is Control+c and the command for pasting text is Control+v.

  1. In the Direct Messaging window, type your message in the Textbox
  2. Use the To menu to select whom you would like to send the message to.
  3. Click Send.

Your message will then be sent to that user and will appear in the discussion region in the Direct Messaging window.

Direct Messaging screen

During your session you can filter the direct text messages displayed in the Direct Messaging window. Use the Show: drop-down menu in the Direct Messaging Window to make your selection.

You can view: All messages, only Public messages, only Private messages, messages from a All Selected participants, messages from Any Selected participants, or messages only from the Moderator.

To raise your hand, click the Raise Hand icon.

Elive Raise Hand icon

When you raise your hand, you will see a number appear next to your name in the Participant Info window. This indicates the order in which the hands were raised and your sequence in the queue.

Elive Participant window showing all users raising hands

Raising your hand does not automatically give you the ability to do what you want to do. The Moderator will let you know when you can have control.

If you have pressed the Raise Hand button (as shown below)

Elive Raised Hand Icon

and you wish to no longer have your hand raised, you need to click the same button, which will now look like this:

Elive Lower Hand Icon

Once you have clicked that button, you will no longer have a number next to your name in the Participant Info box and the moderator(s) will know that you no longer need to speak.
