Error Messages
When Elluminate Live! starts, it verifies that it can access available sound devices. If it cannot locate your sound card, it will continue to launch, but without the audio module.

Elluminate Live! may fail to locate installed sound hardware
- if another application has locked the hardware;
- if the hardware's driver is not functioning correctly; or
- if the hardware is malfunctioning
Follow steps to configure your audio.
Make sure that you do not have any other audio applications running before starting Elluminate Live!. Some older sound cards can handle only one audio channel, and may not give access to Elluminate Live! if running another audio application.
Visit the Web page of the manufacturer of your sound hardware and update the software drivers to the latest version. Software driver updates can improve the performance of older hardware by allowing them to communicate with newer devices and software.
This may be due to a setting on your computer. If you have no other option than to save the file, save it to your desk top and double click the icon from there. If Java Web Start or eLive doesn't start, you will need to follow the steps below:
First, make sure you have Java Web Start installed. Click the Start button and go to Programs (or All Programs) and look for Java Web Start. If you don't have it, you need to download it from www.java.com. Once you have installed Java Web Start, try to get back into eLive. If this doesn't work, you may need to associate JNLP files to open with Java Web Start.
- Open your Control Panel (Click Start, then Control Panel or Start, then Settings, then Control Panel).
- Select Folder Options (You may need to switch to Classic view)
- Click on the File Types tab and you will see the following window:

- Search the list of registered file types for the extension JNLP and select it.
- Check below the list for the "Opens With" entry. If the JNLP extension is not set to Open With javaws OR Java(TM) Web Start Launcher click Change and select it from the list of programs.
- Click OK and close the Folder Options window.
- Try again to access your session
A: Configure your Personal Firewall
When using eLive! for the first time, you may need to configure or confirm the settings of your Personal Firewall.
- You will need to allow Java Web Start (javaws.exe) access to the internet - this may require both inbound and outbound connections.
- eLive! may require access separately - you will need to allow this on both inbound and outbound connections as well.
- You may be prompted to allow IeEmbed access to the internet. eLive! will use this for web site access in the session so you will need to allow this also.
Please be advised that the NSU Help Desk cannot assist you with configuring your firewall, as it is considered a third-party software. Please contact technical support for your firewall software for assistance.
If these instructions do not work for you, it is probably due to a corrupt .dll file on Windows (which can only be solved by a reinstall of windows). Re-installing Windows is NOT RECOMMENDED. Instead, please try to access the session from another computer.
You will need to configure your proxy to allow access to eLive.

This message displays when you are prevented from connecting to an eLive! server to authenticate and join a session. This may be caused by a firewall and/or proxy or lost Internet connection.

- Make sure that you are connected to the Internet and that the connection is active.
- You may need to configure your computer's firewall or proxy settings to allow access to eLive.
