DigiChat Instructions
Requirements
DigiChat is a chat program that runs with Java. To download this, please go to www.java.com.
For the best speed and compatibility with the client applet, we recommend Netscape 6.2 or IE 6.0 for Windows and IE 4.5 or later for Macintosh. Macintosh users can try to use Netscape 4.0 for Macintosh, but this browser exhibits poor Java performance and is NOT recommended.
DigiChat can be run under AOL, however, if you have a problem with it you should try it in Internet Explorer.
- Go to www.nova.edu/DigiChat
- Accept the applet (shown below).

- Enter NSU email name in nickname section (as shown below) and click Connect

- You will then be taken to the foyer.

Using DigiChat
Once you log in, you will be brought to the foyer. Here you will be able to view people in the room, change your settings, chat and change rooms.
In the main area you will see yourself enter the room. It will show your nickname and the room that you've entered. Any conversations that go on in the foyer ARE NOT recorded. No transcripts will be posted if chatting in this room. Once you access the room for your class, the conversations are recorded and posted by your instructor.

In this area you will be able to view profile's of other people in the room OR in all rooms, send private messages, block users from sending you messages and flag messages from certain people.

To view the profile of a user, select their nickname and click this button.
To send a user a private message, select their nickname and click this button.
To flag messages from a user, select their nickname and click this button.
To block messages from a user, select their nickname and click this button.
To send a private message to another user, you would click their name and click the
button. The following window will appear.

Please note: Private messages are not recorded.
To change your settings you would click on the Settings button in the control area. You will automatically be brought to the Profile tab.

Change your profile as you see fit. You can enter as much or as little information as you'd like. At the bottom of this screen you can select the icon you would like others to see next to your name.
Click Save when you're done.
Note: Your settings will only be saved until you close your browser.

To change rooms, you would click the Rooms tab at the top of the control area.
Once there, you will see the names of the rooms and the number of people who are in the room.
If there is a lock icon to the left of the room name, that means you will need a password to access it.
Please note: the Help Desk does not have access to passwords. If you do not know the password to access your chat, you will need to contact your instructor.
